New to the forum

Looking to upgrade from a Greyhawk to a 2017 Melbourn but can't seem to get a consistent answer on how many speeds the transmission has and what is the actual weight(empty).
Thanks in advance for your responses.

Welcome to the forum BullDozerBob! I am not familiar with the motorhomes, but I am sure many members will be on here soon to advise. Have fun with your new rig when you pick it up and happy camping.

Empty weight depends on your options. Generator or not, etc, etc. You would have to call the dealer that has the unit you like and ask them to give you the unloaded vehicle weight (UVW) number for that unit. There are 3 different floor plans and numerous options so it's impossible to know the dry weight without more information.

Here's a link to the manual for it. Hope that helps a little.

http://www.jayco.com/files/downloads...nd%20White.pdf

If you know the floorplan and options you want, you can contact Jayco for the information directly by phone at Phone: 574-825-5861

or any decent Jayco dealer would be happy to look it up for you too I'm sure. Your GVWR will be at 11030 pounds regardless of the options and floorplan you pick, but as you probably know - that number only tells you how much weight it will carry safely - not how much it weights with any given config you decide to run with. GVWR is not empty weight, and it's not how much your motor home weighs either, it's just how heavy your motor home *can weigh* (including options, gear, water, and everything else) before you risk breaking it. Dry weight / empty weight will be far below that number.

The specs for all of them can be found here - http://www.jayco.com/products/class-...ns-and-prices/

Good luck.

Google Jayco Melbourne. Everything you need to know is on the Jayco Melbourne site - the three floor plans and all specifications.

5-6-or 7

Thanks for the replies, but I have had Jayco Dealer Sales people tell me 6 and 7 speeds. What I glean from Jayco website is nothing about the transmission.
Looks like the empty weight is actually on a sheet attached to the motorhome.
I'll look for that next time I'm in one.
Compared to my 2004 Greyhawk-gone are the sides of the valances and the night shades as well as the fit and finish and most of the drawers. I'm 5ft 9in - sure is a long way to the ceiling and the overhead spaces/bunk.
Like to here from owners about diesel power and overall drivability.
Thanks

We have the 24k and tow a Jeep Sahara. We do lots of mountain driving and have no problem at all with power...you're right 6 or 7 speeds??? The turbo makes a huge difference. As far as maneuverability, when we're in no wind to moderate wind it drives like a dream. When winds reach 35+ it starts to get a little jerky, but in our case we think it's because our braking system has an extra joint on the stabilizer, which we're sure makes a huge difference. Our son has driven behind us on a really windy day, and he says that Jeep really moves around (we can also see it moving in the back-up camera), therefore it also affects the motorhome. It came already installed when we purchased our Jeep, but we've just purchased a Brakebuddy Braking System that we think is going to make a huge difference...just haven't had a chance to install it. I hope others comment on "driving in the wind".

We've gone 10,000 miles since our purchase in May (well over 100 nights in it). We're impressed with the quality of cabinetry, appliances, fixtures, etc. The Pioneer System is very complicated but has lots of features. The storage is amazing. We're particularly impressed with the three accesses to the large storage pass-through as well as the smaller storage areas. Inside storage is good and very accessible. Bathroom shower is a good size. So far we love it. The size is perfect for maneuvering in gas stations, campgrounds, tight mountain areas, and our small parking/storage area at home. I could go on and on.

I downshift often in both a 2016 24k and a Sprinter cargo that is my daily driver and unless my memory is playing tricks on me when I downshift it goes into 4th gear so the Melbourne is a 5 speed. Now if Jayco switched to the Mercedes 4 cylinder chassis in newer models then it is paired with a seven speed transmission but I don't think they have.

Just made a deal on a 2017 Melbourne 24K. Will pick it up sometime in January. Enough time to get the excitement going big time.
Any comment on getting a spare tire and wheel.
Thanks,
BullDozerBob

Congratulations. Not sure if the OEM tire carrier could be modified to work so an aftermarket one will most likely be the route you would need to go. Strange that mine came with a jack but no spare. I would have thought Jayco would save a couple bucks ordering the chassis with out the jack. Maybe it is a liability reason.

Congratulations on your purchase. We really enjoy ours...we're sad that it's in its winter bed right now. Ours didn't come with a spare.
