No power to coach

Just drove RV home from over 1 month in the shop. Do to no power to coach.
Parked over night. This morning The coach has no power.
Disconnect switch inside coach was changed at shop, new wire installed, new 10 amp fuse installed.
Converter replaced. Solenoid, battery Disconnect 12 v 100A Relay switch replaced.
The generator starts so I have battery power at coach.
The inverter is running and has blinking red light.
The truck fires right up and runs great.
Just no power to coach.
It is a 2005 Jayco Grayhawk, 30 foot.

Do you have a voltage meter? If so, check for voltage on both sides of the disconnect relay. If you have power on only one side that would indicate the relay is not engaged. Some of them (most) are latching relays and may be able to be reset by turning off the disconnect switch and then disconnect the coach battery for a minute or two and then reconnect and turn the disconnect switch back on. If you don't have a voltage meter, you can try this anyway. ~CA

Is a disconnect relay another name for the solenoid by the coach batteries?

Yes, aka disconnect solenoid. Some people call it a switch, but the switch simply controls the solenoid. The most appropriate term imo would be to call it a "latching relay" or "latching solenoid" which would be even a better term which further defines the solenoid. In any case, most often I see these advertised as a latching relay.

Solenoid vs relay, for most understandings could be considered the same thing when used to control the flow of electricity (solenoids control other things as well like a water valve), but a relay is actually a electromagnetic switch with contacts and uses a constant current or no current at all to position the contacts, and a solenoid is an electromagnetic coil that uses its magnetism to move something (like a plunger) and in this case what it moves is a mechanical plunger mechanism that controls a mechanical switch and is similar to a ballpoint pen mechanism to switch from one position to another (off or on) and doesn't consume any power except during the momentary (pulse) engagement of the solenoid plunger. If you listen carefully you can hear the plunger move for a solenoid (relays can be heard as well but often are much quieter).

I suppose another way to say this is that a solenoid moves a mechanical switch (in this example). However they are in the same housing so... (tmi for most I suspect, lol). ~CA

I also understood that a relay or solenoid is used when a larger amount of current needs to be passed from one source to another. In the case of the disconnect solenoid/latching relay/latching solenoid, it is triggered using a low current switch (such as that by the door entrance) to operate the above mentioned names for the solenoid, to pass the 12 volt coach battery to other coach 12 volt/high current demands (lights, stairs, fridge, heater blower, etc).

Auto manufactures use relays for high demand circuits, and the RV's (for the purpose of being able to turn on/shut down) the coach battery use this solenoid.

I think early Ford Mustangs (and others) used to use a solenoid for the starter.

To the OP, hope all goes well with the appointment! Let us know.

Since the shop is 2 hours away, we will drive there on Wens and spend the night in the RV, (no coach power). Our daughter lives in North Houston and will come get us to take us back home.

Very nice daughter!

If it were my son, it would have cost me a dinner for him and his wife!

Sounds like you are doing something wrong.
But, come to think of it, I can't remember any of them buying us dinner. or cooking us dinner for that matter.

Sandra says I should not be so quick to pull out my wallet.
I told her that they just out fumble me for wallets.

How many kids do you have?

Just the one. He's a great son...I just kid with him about life and such. He's married and he and the wife work hard to make it. Tough for the younger kids to live the American dream these days.

Sounds like the battery disconnect solenoid is not closing.
It has fuses on it you can check

That is exactly what the problem was. Seems they changed it the first time in the shop but it was the wrong part.
This time they added a 10 amp fuse right out front where I can check or change it if needed. It has been 3 days now and it is still all working, so maybe we got it right this time.
Even my brand new refrigerator is working great.

I too replaced my solenoid (actually installed one that a previous owner removed) but bought the wrong type. craigrv set me straight on the differences and the one to buy.

Glad it worked out for you.
