Not a problem but request for advice

I have a 1998 Jayco Class C based on a 1997 Ford E-350 chassis. It's a good old unit. Needs repairs once in a while, but they all do. Has <80,000 miles.
Back in that time period, it was en vogue for RVs to have small tub showers. The problem is I am 1/2 crippled and I can barely lift my legs over the tub edge. In this photo you can see the tub/shower on the left.
Does anybody have any idea or concept on how to convert this tub shower into a walk-in stall shower? Ever heard of this being done? Do you think it's possible without extravagant cost? Extravagant is over $500.

What brought this to a head was the last campground I was in didn't have showers. I had to go to an RV park that charged $10 just to use the shower.

Thanks

Well, there are RV showers available... for example.
You could also just get the shower bottom... for example and get some waterproof wallboard.
Then you'll need to get a shower door, I recommend Nautilus.. see this

You'll need to find someone who can actually do the work you need and for that you may want to ask advice. I recommend you contact a nearby Mobile RV Service technician and ask for advice. Here is another search option to display techs in your area, simply type your town... Clovis California.

Not exactly what you are asking but have you considered using the outside shower for these situations? There are screens available too.

RecPro has a shower surround for $500 but you would still need demo and install which would probably double it triple the cost.

There may be other options. This was just what I saw.

That's two referrals for RecPro.

That does look extravagant.

No, I have not, and will not, consider the outside shower.

Your quest for a shower is because it's hard for you to lift your leg. Keep in mind the shower unit will probably have to be built on a "platform" about 6" above the floor. The platform will allow you to conceal the water and drain plumbing.

Have you considered a simple step with your existing tub? Something like this;

or this

How low would the side of the tub need to be for you to use the tub? This may sound crazy, but could you cut the tub side down in an area to allow you to enter the tub? I see that you are using a shower curtain so no door to deal with. You could trim it out to look like t was made that way. Just a thought to avoid losing what you already have in place.

And maybe add some closed cell spray foam to add strength to the bottom of the tub.

This was going to be my suggestion. I've seen older homes with older acrylic tubs, cut to make a step-through entry. Fill the gap with spray foam, bond some sort of flexible acrylic to the cut opening, which should have some radius to it vs squared...OR if it is squared, that could be oaky for 3 pieces, caulked with silicone on where they meet.

I was just working with large acrylic panels they use for shower surrounds. I had my shower redone and asked for the left over pieces to be left behind. I used it to line the bare luan cavity of my camper. The access space was meant for 2 way fridge access, but now it's storage, with a water resistance surface on all sides. They're pretty flexible when cut into strips that are only a few inches wide and bond easily with any type of bonding adhesive.

Cut tub opening (step-through hole) fill with spray foam, top with the strip of acrylic. Caulk all edges. I can imagine a strip of this stuff cut to the thickness of the tub wall, and flexed into place to top off the exposed step-through opening, might just work. OR the 3 piece suggestion.

If you decide to go for it, let me know what approximate sized piece you need. I can send it to you. I have a ton of solid white.

The photos show my project where I lines the interior of that access space with the acrylic shower panel. I have solid white and a piece of this tile look option.

If you remove the tub you will need new material from around the shower walls to keep the water in. Your current waterproof walls end at the tub top. Those will have to be extended in some way to reach the new level. A surround is generally the cheapest route. You could try to line the existing walls with shower curtains but water will quickly destroy your RV. I wouldn't that the risk.

A new to you shower will include a shower pan (floor), walls, and most likely plumping fixtures.

A fold up step will be a less extravagant solution.

There are a few more resources to mention. These folks offer used/restored and hard to find RV components. Maybe you'll find ideas and advice if you contact each.

WOW! These are all great suggestions. I didn't even know those steps existed. Thank you to all for the suggestions. You've given me things to think about. Now I need to decide which direction to take.

I’m not sure of your measurements but there are kits to convert tub to shower try Quicktub.com.
