Oh Crap!

I just returned from a week away from the Seneca to find that a bottle of PVC pipe cleaner (that purple stuff) leaked and at a whole in the brand new Linoleum Jayco installed in October. A quick Google search shows about $5000. Anyone have any ideas or know of anyone good at this type of repair.

A good flooring guy may be able to patch it if he they can find a hidden spot(in a cabinet or under the bed) to get the piece that would match the grain.

You might get a piece big enough to cut out the flooring along fake plank edge lines and glue a replacement piece into the resulting hole. If it was just replaced you should be able to get a length from Seneca or a flooring dealer.

Sorry to see that damage. That can be stressful. I know how upset I get when I drop items onto the floor or see something rubbing so i can sympathize with your situation. I believe the pattern repeats every 8 ft so first thing is to get a piece of flooring. Once you get that a good flooring person should be able to cut and seal it in place. If the floor is similar to mine the rough wood like texture makes it almost seamless.

Oh man that sucks! Being they replaced the floor, I doubt there is any extra under cabinets or bed to rob some from. I would first try and see if you can get some of the flooring and then find a good flooring guy to patch it, being it’s a plank design, it should be able to patch it and not be noticeable......only other idea is a throw rug.

I tend to be so careful with that purple cleaner. I never leave it anywhere it might leak, tip, or anything that might end badly. You have my sympathy.

I tore my new linoleum in our SB house, moving an item. It was not a cut and replace, it was an un-crunch and careful glue down. Ended up very nicely done. Hard to see, I have to look for it.

If you have an area under a cabinet, bed, etc, they can cut out the damage, and patch it. You will know it's there, mostlikely no one else will ever notice it.

When they replaced floor they did replace area under the bed. Pattern repeats at 5 feet. As long as pattern is centered appropriately I might be able to take from there. Have an email to Jayco for additional 7 feet of roll if any left. Now just to find an exceptional good linoleum person.

There are two kinds of people in the world, those that will painstakingly have this fixed and folks that would need searching for a rug.

I'm glad it's working out for you. I'd be obsessing over it.

Problem with that is, linoleum is like carpet and wall paper each run can have a slight color variation. What the factory currently has may be slightly lighter or darker, I doubt they would sill have any from your particular job laying around.

When we had our 2001 I bought an extra piece of carpet for the bathroom and you could see the shade difference when placed up against the original. Luckily I had it serged and the serging made it so it wasn't noticeable.

It might not be an exact match but I’ve seen flooring guys work miracles. something like that wouldn’t even concern me if I knew a good flooring guy. Get it fixed and it may bother you for a week or two but after that you’ll forget about it and it will be nonexistent.

Very true. I used to be in that 1st category. It drove my wife crazy how bad I would obsess over things.

I would now fall in the the go get a mat or throw rug and cover it camp. Not that I don't like to keep things nice. But some things just aren't worth worrying about.

If you know a creative artist type of friend. Patch the linoleum the best you can, seal it, and have a floor mural painted in that spot if not others also. If in the kitchen, some spilt milk or cracked eggs. In the bathroom, a roll of TP dropped. In the bedroom, well, get creative there. Could spark a few conversations in years to come. Good Luck!!

Time to break out that small scatter rug you've been wanting to use.

Hide, practice ducking, and buy an expensive rug.

I guess I don't know what to do to bring it back to a uniform appearance but I do appreciate your airing the story. I didn't realize that stuff was so corrosive. I guess it contains acetone which can eat up synthetic materials.
