Oil change

Hello I have a Jayco Melbourne 28F 2013. When changing the oil would you use synthetic oil ? Also do you know the engine size for the make and model I have someone besides the dealership doing an oil change for me this week and they are asking these questions. I do know that it is a ford triton engine. Thank you very much for your knowledge

If you have the Ford V-10 like you said (newer Melbourne’s have small Mercedes Diesel) then this is the oil I would use. They also make a 5w20 version of this oil but later V-10’s Ford changed to 5w30. I was told they originally recommended 5w20 for fuel mileage but found it was not that much better than 5w30 and the 5w30 is better oil in heavy hot hard use that these motors are subject to.

Not to start a oil war here but the Ford MotorCraft Synthetic Blended oils are in many ways better than full Synthetic. You can’t go wrong with either.

Gotta love Advance. It's $25 @ the dealer.

Ha! Good catch. I just used that to show him what I was talking about. I get mine at Walmart. Walmart also has the motorcraft oil filters.

LOL. We have an Advance store that buys from us then marks it up. And people buy it. Can't beat Wally Worlds prices though. They must buy a truck load because we can't even come close. Pretty bad when a retail store can get it cheaper than the dealer.

I switched to Mobil One Full Synthetic at the first oil change. Used Motorcraft Oil Filter.

Our 2009 Greyhawk (on a late 2008 built E450) required 6 Quarts of 5W20.

Don't want to start an oil war either, the newer V10 Ford recommends 5w30. I think the 5w20 is not robust enough for carrying a house down the road.
They originally recommended 5w20 for better fuel mileage, but it didn't help much at all. I also recommend the Mobil 1 oil filter. Its better suited for Mobil 1 oil and better built than the Ford filter. JMHO

Anyone know the size of the oil drain plug (bolt thread size)? I was thinking of putting in a valve for easy oil changes. I have a Jayco Precept 35S 2016.

Ahh I'm not sure thats a great idea. Valves can go defective and leak on you unless you keep a spare one on hand. I would rethink it.

I've been using a Fumoto Valve on my V10 for 5 years. No problems, no leaks, and changing oil is quick and clean. Go to website, they will tell you what you need.
