Oil, filter and other pertinent Greyhawk questions

I have no doubt that one of you knowledgeable folks will point me directly to the relevant thread, of which I seem incapable of finding using the arcane and mysterious search algorithms include in this forum on oil change suggestions including capacity, filter brands and techniques for a Greyhawk 29ME sitting on top of the Ford E450 V10 gas engine!

(Note, the search page tells me there were too many responses to show!)

And yeah, I know, I could just take it to the dealer and leave it for 12 days or so and pay whatever their labor and retail+ prices are but I'd kind of like to save some of that money for my next fillup bill at the pumps!

Thanks in advance.

6 quarts of your favorite flavor. I recommend the Motorcraft oil filter. I also recommend the motorcraft 5-30 semi-synthetic oil (newer V-10’s have gone back to 5-30 weight from previous years that used 5-20)all available at your local Wally World.

I use the Motorcraft filter. A little over 3 dollars. I also use a good quality oil, I have been using Synthetic lately cause I've got a lot of it. It takes 6 quarts.

I change every 5000 miles cause I'm OCD, so the Motorcraft filter does fine for me.

The oil is easy to do. I'm old and fat yet I can easily fit under the Motorhome to change the oil!

Yep I can fit under our Greyhawk 31FK without lowering the levelers, but they make it even easier.

Wow, sure wish I had thought about that! Actually, I was looking for suggestions, not the necessarily standard capacities but rather the collective experience of my fellow forum members.

But thanks for the link.

Well, that is good news!

Thanks all for the suggestions. I only use synthetic in my Yamaha FJR so I will probably go that route there too.

I never thought of using the levelers. Genius! Thanks.

I did all the oil changes in our Greyhawk. First oil change, I switched to Mobil 1 Full Synthetic, 5W20. I also used a Motorcraft Oil Filter. I changed the oil before our first camping trip of the year.

Same here. Motorcraft filter and Mobil 1 full synthetic. I've changed my own oil for years and on a lot of different vehicles. This is one of the easiest to work on.

I've used Mobil 1 in my motorcycles for years so that sounds like a good idea, thank you Costco! And I had not thought of the levelers to raise the whole cab up. Great idea!

Will be changing the oil before our first big trip out of state next month. We have less than 3000 miles but figured it was a good time prior to adding quite a few more miles to/from Colorado and NM from Texas.

Sure you don't have that backwards??? My 2018 recommends 5-30. I was told they changed from prior years of 5-20 but it was too light for many applications so they changed back to 5-30.

Our 02/16 build offers a mixed message. There shows to be two printings of the manual. The first had 5-30 with 5-20 optional. The second printing lists 5-30. The oil cap also shows 5-30. I've been running 5-30.

No, it's correct.

You are aware that Ford has different v10’s for different applications. The ones in the F53 chassis in the class A’s are different from the ones used in the E450 class C chassis. Different horsepower and torque.

Your numbers are wrong. Ours is a 2018 E450 and takes 6 quarts not 7 like your showing also my filler cap has printed 5-30 right on the top.

I just take my Greyhawk to the local Ford dealership that can work on large vehicles. They have a large vehicle garage bay. I book an appointment, like I do with the car. They do they oil/lube/filter and multi-point inspection. I'm in and out in about an hour. Me not having to do it, is worth the $50.00.

Just to throw my hat in the ring, my 2013 f150 3.5 eco and her 2015 mkc 2.3 eco both take 5w30. Used mobil 1 since the add, years ago, with the regular oil in the frying pan. Larry
