Outside Antenna

Hi everyone, first post here and seems to be complexing. I was at a campground in Va and my tv reception was terrible, I had purchased an exterior antenna for my older Class C and now with my new Jayco I can't seem to connect it correctly so it works. Anyone tried to do this to bypass the King antenna on the roof. We have a GrayHawk 31FS 2019. Thanks

Did it ever work, ie bad out of the box and under warranty?


Mine has a power switch where the cable comes out of the wall. It also has a tiny on indicator light. I do get some signal but a lot more with the power on to the signal booster in the wall switch-plate.

I guess you could use a separate antenna. But in my experience, the Jack antennas are pretty good. From my house I can get almost as many channels (and all the ones I want anyway) with the King on my MH as I can with the 4-ft Winegard Platinum Series HD7694P Long Range TV Antenna I have mounted to my house.

If you're not getting any channels and you know you should be (check one of the many websites to find the towers and turn your antenna accordingly), then troubleshoot what you have before you look at adding something new.

And of course, make sure the booster is on at the wall plate.

Many members have had problems with the cabling in these rigs. Everything from connections simply not being made to ends popping off to defective switches.

Yes my booster is on, just very poor reception. The King Jack is not very good, Perhaps an upgrade to a better king series might be the answer.

We have the King Jack in ours and it's a really good antenna. I'd suspect that something is not connected correctly or came unconnected.


The number of Jayco owners who've posted similar woes only to find out that Jayco didn't connect things properly - well, they're quite a few.


In answer to your question - if you plan on using the same King Jack wiring from the TV to the new antenna, I guess that'll answer your question.


But before I bailed on the King, I'd just grab some RG-6 and wire direct from the TV to the new antenna. If that works, then I'd use the King Jack wiring to the new antenna.


If that fails, then you know it's the wiring and not the King Jack.

Like I said, the King Jack is actually a pretty good antenna. My money's on something wrong with the wiring. Let's just say cable connections are not a "production strength" over at Jayco factory. LOTS of stories of "crimped" cables falling right out of their connectors.
