Outside Storage Idea

So, before we purchased our 26Y we knew the outside storage was stingy. Our maiden trip we did get everything we wanted stowed away, but we left a few things home and having to pull things out to get to other things behind was not ideal.

So in searching for a solution I found this nifty hitch mount cargo box. I'm thinking of picking one up over the winter (its spendy) to stow away some bulky items (screen house for example, maybe the leveling blocks? I don't know but I'm positive I can fill it).

Anybody use or consider one of these? Seems like a nice way to add some needed storage to my rig - and I def have the cargo capacity to utilize something like this. It can hold up to 250 pounds, though I doubt I'd hit 150.

I also envision this as the place we could potentially toss our items into when a storm rolls in that requires the awning be retracted - rather then cramming everything into the cab like we usually do.

Thoughts?

Not a bad idea but you could make your own using a cargo carrier (I got an aluminum one from HF) and a large storage box. It would be much less expensive and you use the carrier for other items like a generator (what I use it for) if you ever needed

That way would save a good chunk of change. It wouldn't have that finished Rolla look though, and I'd have to strap whatever box I bought down instead of just dropping it in and clipping it. However, ratchet straps are also cheap.

Your Greyhawk, I bet has a hitch already. I would recommend adding a few straps to the corners and strapping it to the frame to stabilize the rack.

Usually there is a lot of slop between the hitch and the receiver, and a lot of this cargo holders move around alot, and can put a lot of stress on the joints.

Use one of these hitch tighteners to stop the play between the receiver and the cargo carrier. They work great.

I have seen a pickup tool box bolted to a inexpensive cargo carrier that looked ok. I could make it work for a lot less than $700. +. It is nice looking though.
