overnight stay

When traveling on long trip and doing overnight stay just to get some sleep, where do you usually choose; Rest stop, cabellas, wal-mart, etc.
Thanks for the input

If you add state/city/county parks, truck stops, RV parks, and cheap motels to the list, I did all those when delivering trailers.

Now, towing our TT, our stops are better planned so cheap motels are off the list. We drive fewer miles a day and stop earlier to relax, eat, and get a good nights rest.

All of the above.

If we're trying to get someplace then we stop where ever it's close, safe and comfortable. Truck stop, casino lots, rest areas, Wal-Mart - yep all of the above

This. If I'm just sleeping I don't want to disconnect or hookup or anything. We do this when travelling from ON to AZ. No need to stop on the way down.

For a quick sleep while traveling, we like larger truck stops. They are free, usually safe, sometimes have designated RV lanes and serve hot coffee in the morning! The only drawback is they are sometime noisy.

If its just to sleep for a few hours, then I do Wal-Mart or Truck Stops.

I prefer truck stops for several reasons...
1) You can run your generator all night to keep your AC's going if you are traveling down south.
2) Fuel and sleep in one place...no additional stop to slow me down.
3) Truckers are more respectful to your stuff. At walmart, I always go out and make sure all my storage is locked and then still sleep with one eye open because of all the traffic. Truck stops have much less traffic and they tend to leave each others crap alone vs the customers at walmart.

We like Cracker Barrel. We always eat breakfast, dinner or a dessert with our stay. We ask first and have never been refused a spot. They're usually in a safe place. Sometimes we have a traveling companion with us who won't fit in our small RV. Cracker Barrels are usually within walking distance of a hotel. We also like Walmarts when they're in a safe location.

My location of choice is Cabelas. Many have large parking areas and most have pump out stations. We travel from vt to the Carolinas 5-6 times per year and the hamburg pa location is a perfect driving distance after work. Grab 6-8 hours rest and then complete the next 8-10 driving the following day.

We use Wal-Marts and rest areas. I've found that the rest areas near state borders are the best ones. Usually very large, well lit, and clean. Plus I can usually pick up a free state road map (yes, I still carry paper maps!). I prefer a good rest area over WM in most cases.

Truck stops aren't too bad IMO if you can handle the noise and traffic. I find that many OTR truckers like to travel at night, so a lot of the truck stops we've stopped at have had LOTS of traffic. You're certainly not going to bother anyone with your generator there though! AND most of these places have good coffee.

Some communities are no longer allowing overnighters, including semis, at Wal-Marts.

For short "naps" we usually stay at rest areas, truck stops or if Wal-Mart allows, their parking lot. We do ask at Wal-Mart. Otherwise campgrounds.

I agree. We like a nightly stop at a CG for security, electricity, water, dumping pooh and any amenities the CG has to offer. We can justify it as a nightly fee is the same as boarding the pooch and the pooch is with us.

We prefer Wal-Mart. Not as noisy or as bright as truck stops. We usually only stop for a quick overnight, in late - out early. All the ones we have used have 24 Hour Security, even the ones that aren't open 24 Hours. We almost always needs something from Wal-Mart, so we stop in the store to pick up what we need.

Usually for us, it is about the destination, not the journey, so we want to stop as little as possible. When it is just as much about the journey, then we stay in campgrounds.

Very much this.

If we're going long, we're going REALLY long. The goal is mostly to get there. TX is so big, we usually have to stay a night before we even get out of the state! So I try to get us out of the state as fast as possible (not that there aren't places worth stopping in TX, we'll do that too). Once I'm out of TX, I'll usually putz around a bit more, which means spending some time at intermediate destinations along the way.
