Permanent stack for generator on a 37 FS.

We live on our generator quite a bit. We have a portable stack extension that holds on the the side of the coach with a set of suction cups. I had rigged a harness to hold this stack extension pieces in the generator bay, when going down the road. Kind of a pain to always have to take apart or put together and because of diesel soot, dirty.

Working on a resolution to semi permanently install the stack strapped to the side of the roof ladder. Initial test are working well. Using flexible 2 inch exhaust pipe to connect generator tail pipe to the extension intake manifold. Attachment to the ladder is by heavy duty plastic wire ties.

During test, I'm using a 6 foot piece of flexible 2 inch exhaust pipe. Has worked well for the last 16 hours. Right now, the flexible tube lays on the ground and may be absorbing vibration. Next step is to run a couple of stainless steel screws through each of the 4 sections of the tube to make a more permanent connection, than just the slide fit. May eventually try a shorter section of the flexible exhaust pipe, but right now just working on securing exhaust extension for travel down the road and then changing from regular tail pipe to flexible tubing when set up for using the generator.

Initial test are proving very promising.

We have a 20' length of Exhaust Service Hose. In our part of the country, diesel shops have flexible hoses that attach to the exhaust pipes and vent the fumes outside of the building. this stuff is high-temp and easy to store. We just place one end over the Genny exhaust and run the hose along the ground downwind.

this is the stuff... https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cpt-flt300/overview/

We stuff it in the wet bay along with our sewer hoses

Initial test went well. Had to remove the exhaust stack connection during a rain storm because that temporary pipe connection filled with water in a violant rain storm. We noticed an exhaust smell in coach. That's why we test. Known people who have lost family or friends to carbon monoxide poisoning. Not planning on becoming a statistic. The idea of running a hose along the ground would work, but with rodeos and railroad meets, we get in too many places where we want to get those exhaust fumes up in the air to prevent spoiling someone else's enjoyment.

Have you thought about a rain cap for your exhaust stack?

Thank you for your interest.

Yeah, a stack cap crossed my mind. We were just in a real heavy sideways wind and rain storm. Of course, not really interested in a poppity-pop-pop of the cap opening and closing as we are trying to sleep. Might just keep slipping on flexible hose during major use and go back to alternate letting one end lay on the ground or original exhaust pipe end during prediction of rain and a blow. Major reason for putting exhaust line up permanently was to prevent having to store and erect each time we use it. Sliding a flexible line over the ends is really a lot simpler and I don't have to deal with suction cup marks and suction cups coming loose off of side of Seneca. Tomorrow we'll test it going down the road. Not running, but just being strapped on. Got a short run 28 miles north, so it will be a good test.

That is our goal as well. Most of the time we route the hose into the roadway of the event, or to a place that it will impact others the least.

Our hose is made to be run over by anything, large water tanker trucks have run over ours many times at our annual 4-day concert trip.
