Porcelain v. Plastic Toilets?
Hi, everyone. We just bought our first rv today (2022 Jayco 27U), and wondered if I should swap out the plastic toilet for a porcelain one. It's probably just cosmetic, but wondered what the more experienced rv'ers insights are. Thank you. I'll be asking a lot of questions. Sorry if posted to wrong thread. New to this group too.

Welcome!
IMHO, unless you spend lots of time in it and / or absolutely dislike it, I'd use the original one. I think the porcelain ones are easier to clean tho.

They both work fine, parts are cheap if you need any, the plastic base toilet might feel a little more unstable , the porcelain is a little more heavy and feels more stable .
our last 3 jayco campers had a porcelain toilet ,money wise not expensive to replace .
Hope this Helps Roy& Joyce

We though about switching out toilets. But honestly, the plastic toilet is just fine. And, it's chair height.

I prefer porcelain only because its easier to clean. I did swap out my last two, prior to that it didn't much matter to me - this one came with porcelain.

Ours came with plastic and I thought about changing it to porcelain because I think they're easier to clean. But the plastic has been working fine and I've had plenty of other things to spend money on! I'll probably replace with porcelain when/if it needs replacing but not until then.

When you change it out please remember to install a 1/4 turn shutoff valve behind your new toilet as they tend to spring a leak at 6:00 PM on a Saturday night and every store is closed . Now everything else works with only one interruption

Welcome aboard!
I'd say its a personal choice. Yah, the plastic one feels cheap, but it does the job. If it breaks I might consider a porcelain replacement. As for cleaning, its not bad. The foot pedal is the only part that ever looks grimy.

I just replaced the plastic toilet in our 30z with a porcelain Thetford. As suggested, I installed a quarter-turn valve behind the toilet. Installation was a little complicated since the connection to the porcelain toilet was higher up, it's chair height. I prefer the taller commode, it stays clean longer, and the flushing water is more efficient at clearing the waste. And the seat and cover are standard residential size. Totally worth the upgrade.

My suggestion is to simply sit on it for now and see how it works out for you.
BTW, Welcome to the Jayco Owners forums.

Five years into our OEM plastic throne and we’re perfectly happy with it. No problem cleaning it and it is comfortable enough for a guy who’s 6-6. As the previous poster said, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. And why add extra weight with a heavier toilet?

Did not see it mentioned above but the much heavier porcelain throne will put stress on the floor. In my case, I would worry that the screws would pull out of the 1/2 inch plywood? floor. Bumps, corners, etc. could pull hard on those screws.
Plus, I have a total weight limit on my RV and why waste it on the toilet.

My 2016 Jayco 28BHBE came with the porcelain toilet.
Love it and it is easy to clean!
HAS NOT PULLED OFF THE FLOOR EITHER AFTER 7 YEARS!

The DW brought up a good point. Porcelain is more vulnerable to breaking than plastic.

This is probably irrelevant to the original question but I need to ask. I've got a 2020 Greyhawk 30XP and it came with porcelain. Some here have newer units, some have older, many different models. What was or is Jayco's position on which gets plastic or porcelain? Just luck of the draw? What's available on a given day?
