Power for Clarion
From where is the power for Clarion in-dash radio?? Is it from engine or coach battery? 2012 Melbourne 29D. Thanks Ralph

Anything in-dash should be fed from the engine electrical system.

Actually it is powered from both. Jayco was using a diode system years ago, not sure if they still are. The radio will operate with the engine on or off. When the ignition is on you will be the getting power from the chassis battery. When the key is off you will get power from the coach battery.

Thanks Grumpy, I think mine is powered by both. It was unusal yesterday when i pressed the battery disconnect, but then I turned the key on and it powered up again! I was not thinking clear after that, one turned it off and the other seemed turn it on. I will do more testing next weekend when I get to go out RV'ing again!! Thanks Ralph

Ok, how to disconnect power when in storage? I had it disconnected before and then i turned the ignition on for some reason and power came back on to radio. Then I got confused decided to check with you folks. More testing and checking to come! Thanks for all the replys!!! Ralph

When I put ours away, I turn off the coach battery, and the Clarion turns off. If for some reason I want the coach battery on, like running the refer the night before a trip, I turn it off at the dash.

Hi everyone,
My Clarion in-dash will not turn on. Does anyone know where the fuse for this unit is? Coach fuse panel does not list it. Ford E450 owners manual lists several fuses for "radio", backup camera, or SYNC unit -- I checked, but none of these looked blown?
May be a coincidence, but the control panel for the Big Foot levelers also will not power-up. When we arrived to set-up, I had blinking front/rear lights which owners manual say low battery, but no reset instructions. I removed the panel and unplugged it to force reboot, then after power-up cycle, it was blinking rear light only. I pressed Emergency Retract to make sure all feet were up, and all lights went off. I power cycled the unit again, but no lights. Does anyone know where the fuse for the Big Foot panel is?

problem solved. it was the fuse in the house battery compartment. once i replaced the fuse, the radio and the levelers worked.

Let me try to correct some info here. Yes, the radio can either be turned on by the house switch, or the ignition switch, but that is not what "powers" the radio. If you look at any radio these days, you will have 3 power wires. A common ground, a batt+ (this is the actual power wire...the one that the radio pulls from to power the amp to run the speakers and turn on the display, etc), lastly there is an ACC wire. This ACC wire is the signal that tells the radio to turn on. In our RV's the ground and BATT is ran to the engine battery (your steps are ran here too using that fuse you just talked about). Their is a circuit that turns on power to the ACC wire if either the house main is on AND/OR the ignition switch is on. It being powered from the engine battery is how you are able to have the radio on, while having the house mains off.
