Recommendations for a brake controller

I recently purchased a 2019 Jayco Greyhawk 30X. I wanted to install the OEM Ford brake controller. When I talked to my local Ford dealer about it he told me that there was a 90% chance that the E-450 chassis didn't have the software in it for the factory unit and the controller was not returnable! I was wondering if anyone out there has installed an OEM controller or if not what would be a good aftermarket one?

Before we bought our F150 with the factory controller, we used a Tekonsha Prodigy P3. They work very well. Here's just one of many places to get one of them.

I do not believe you can install a factory Ford brake controller. You'll need to buy the harness extension and an aftermarket controller. The prodigy is great.

I have a Tacoma and I had to buy a kit which included a harness, a couple of relays, etc. Was easy to install. Not sure if Ford or someone have has a similar kit. I did this to install a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 which has served me well.

Lipto56, I have not used a brake controller for my current RV but the Redarc Tow Pro Elite is the one I was planning on buying. I like it's design of a small control wheel button with a remotely mounted box.

I was tempted to try this one:

https://www.amazon.com/CURT-51180-Co...63310600&psc=1

Looks like no box needed on the dash and no wiring.

I have a P3 in my Sprinter. Great controller. It has lots of features and is really able to be customized to make for a great towing experience.

With that said, I have a low end Tekonsha Voyager in my 2007 Ram currently that has been in 3 separate trucks dating back 20 years (it was first in my 2001 Ram) and has without exaggeration hundreds of thousands of towing miles on it. It has never failed to stop any trailer I've been hooked to. They are cheap, no fancy display, and at least in my experience, just stone reliable. If someone was looking for an entry level proportional controller that works, that would be what I would recommend.

I have a Tekonsha P2 and it works well when I used to tow a travel trailer and now when in the Greyhawk pulling a tow dolly with a minivan in tow.

I'd only imagine a P3 would be better

I used a P3 for years towing RV trailer.

As far as 2019 chassis having a harness for brake controller, it should, but obviously no guarantees. My 2018 chassis does, but I haven't hooked it up. I went with surge tow dolly and wireless lights.

I have seen the Curt one mentioned above in a youtube and they liked it. Certainly worth looking at if you don't want to go hunting for the harness under the dash and don't want to use a surge brake assembly. If it works well, it would solve all your issues..

Our Tekonsha Primus works really well for our small unit. We had great customer service for wiring and installing it. Highly recommend Tekonsha.

BooBoo on 2017 Alante 26x headlight array

On the third day of a multi month trip a broken headlight array happened. I was headed west on Highway 98 on Florida’s Gulf coast. I was on the two lane stretch on Tyndall Air Force base when a truck coming East load shifted and several 2x4s swung out into my lane and broke my driver’s headlight array. Neither of us could stop due to no shoulder but we did report it to the Tyndall AFB police. And there is some fiberglass damage. The headlight itself still works but the other three lamps are shattered. My question to the group; does anyone know if this is a repurposed auto/truck headlight display? My previous ALFA motorhome used a Ford Explorer headlight array. Thank God it ain’t any worse. Thanks in advance.

This controller works awesome on our 2018 Jayco Greyhawk 29me. Easy to use, traveling 9600 miles through Colorado, Wyoming, Montana never failed.
