Question Redhawk 24B Mileage

Hi everyone. We have a 2020 Redhawk 24B that we’ve taken out about five or six times around Texas. Trips have ranged from about 100 miles round-trip to about 500 miles round-trip. We do run air conditioning when we travel and I average about 63 miles an hour driving speed. If the trip is mainly flat I do use cruise control when we’re in the country. I don’t have any problem with the E450 downshifting. Just in passing, this cab is the last year of the year E450 V10. Our MPG had ranged from 8 to 10 miles per gallon. I thought we might get a little more as this is a relatively small RV. If any of you own this model I wonder if you’d be kind enough to give us a little feedback.

Thanks,
Steve

The biggest enemy for RV mileage is wind resistance so whether you have a 24' or a 30' the frontal area is the same. The mileage you're getting is really pretty good. When we had our 2001 Designer on the E-450 we averaged right around 8 and that was over 5 years and 50,000 miles driving between 62 and 65.

24b mpg

Grumpy, thanks for the quick reply! When we bought the RV, gently used with 6000 mi about a year and a half ago, we were budgeting for about 10 mpg. Of course, we hadn’t planned on gasoline prices through the roof. At least here in Texas, right now we are still at about $2.80 or so per gallon of unleaded. As others have noted, travel days may run $70.00 or so in gas. But with midrange RV camping sites available for $30-$50 a night, it definitely is still a great and economical way to see the country.

I agree with Grumpy - if you're consistently over 8MPG, I'd be happy about it too. I can get 8 or better when I drive. My wife, who I didn't know was related to the Andretti's apparently, gets 7...

She drives it like we stole it.

I think budgeting for 10 was very optimistic. You might get that with a tailwind but 6-8 average is going to be what you get the majority of the time.
There are numerous threads here about mileage and sorry to say that if you bought an RV worrying about mileage you got into the wrong endeavor. I have had everything from a pop-up, to a trailer, to a 5th wheel to this C and have never seen an average above 10 and most times it is less. Pulling the 5iver, on the flats of AZ/NM, with a good tailwind I could see 12-15 for a time but that soon was averaged out by 4-6 pulling mountains or a headwind.

Forget mileage it will ruin a good trip.

31DS Gas Mileage

I get 7-8 mpg in my 31DS. I think my gas tank is 55 gallons. I start looking for a gas station when I get down to 1/4 tank. So a fill up is about 40 gallons. About $140 at $3.50 per gallon. I can only drive about 300-350 miles in a day. So, that is about one fill-up per day. Drove coast to coast in 2017. Took 8 days. Spent in the range of $1000 for gas.

My 2019 Greyhawk 29 MV gets around 9-10 Unless I can get Non Alcohol gas, then I can get 13. I do not tow a car and do not go over 65 MPH. BTW b=Buc Cees has non alcohol gas....
