We recently purchased a 2016 Greyhawk 29MV with only 4434 miles on the engine. This weekend we are doing our first shakedown trip for three nights and have a noise coming from the refrigerator. It sounds like a fan is rubbing every so often and sometimes last an hour or two before it stops. Does this on electric mode as well as gas absorption?
Has anyone else had this issue and how did you get it to stop?
Any guidance would be appreciated.

ammonia in a sealed unit uses gas or electric to heat boiler tube, unit needs to be almost level to operate properly if not close to level cause circulation in tube to stop and high boiler temp and failure. I had one go bad it was making a lot of noise they should be silent

Jimmy, maybe the original owner installed a cooling fan in the rear of the unit to help it operate. Many RV's where the refrigerator is located in a slideout the factory will install cooling fans because the refer can't be vented through the roof. They do make noise...I have had them.

On your 29MV your refer is not in a slide and vented out the roof so no factory fans are installed...this isn't to say the original owner didn't install one. Usually they are small computer cooling 12volt fans with a thermal switch so they turn on and off automatically.

I would take the cover off the back of the refer (it's on the outside of the motorhome held on by 2 twist locks) and check back there for a fan somewhere.

Che57vy, I did level the coach but will put a level inside the fridge today.
I think as cabinetmaker said they may have added a cooling fan but with the outside plate off I can’t see it.
I called the service dept over in Panama City and placed the phone next to the coils and they said that’s not a normal sound. Today I will try to find an added pair of wires leaded from above the coils that may answer the question. If I find a solution I post it. Have a great weekend, Jimmyd

Sometimes a fan is placed in the roof vent for extra cooling but should be no sound

I think it’s a plastic fan blade somewhere I just need to locate it. Can’t go on the roof in today’s heat. Will check it out when we get back to the house this week. Trying to stay cool 😎

My 2015 MV has a fan up by the roof vent. You can't see it from the roof without pulling the upper vent cover. However, it can be sighted by removing the lower cover and looking up. My upper fan never came on so I figured it was a defective thermostat (located up by the fan). I jumped out the thermostat and put in a switch accessible inside the lower vent.

I will check that out. When I open the outside cover and look in there is all I can see are the refrigeration lines and 2 wire that run up between them. I’m pretty sure that they will lead to the problem fan. Sounds like a piece of debri is rubbing. I’ll check out better when we get back home. Safe travels,

If you stick your head in as far as you can and look up, you'll be able to see the fan all the way up at the top vent. I just verified that. A flashlight will help.

BTW, four screws under caulking removes the top vent cover. Easy enough to remove, you just have to caulk it up again when you put it back on.

There's also a screen over the top vent to prevent critters from getting in there. I had to slice it open to access the fan and thermostat. It's a pretty heavy duty screen so don't do what I did and poke holes in yourself.

Thanks again Hoppers4 for the guidance. I will be sure to get that screen back on. It’s frog 🐸 season here on the coast of Florida. I thought at first that is what may be making the noise in the fan. They hide everywhere it is shady or cool.

Che57vy, the worst part of the frogs is the mess they leave behind.
Three years ago we left mid Florida headed for California and each night when I stopped a frog would appear. He rode all the way to California with us and after a week he decided to get off and look around. They are persistent critters.

I found the fan. Today I was able to shine a spotlight up between the coils behind the fridge and there it was. It looks to be mounted about one foot down from the roofline. As mentioned it is a little computer fan. Not very good quality. If I can get at it from the roof I will replace it with an Airplate. They are solid and move plenty of air. A project for a cooler day.
