Removing those pretty chrome wheel covers

SO, I'm preparing to check tire pressures on the coach. I have a need to readjust the long stem hose on the inside dually tires. It's against the chrome wheel cover. That means removing the outer wheel covers for adjustment.

How do we remove the chrome outer Wheel Cover nuts...???

What size lug wrench is needed for the 16" wheels on our Jayco 16" Grey Hawk 29MV... ???

Mine were just held in place by spring loaded spikes/teeth. Get a big flat head under an edge and work it around gently until it comes off.

With my flow through tire pressure sensors, I had to take mine off.

Just a heads up, but I replaced my friction wheel covers with the type that require a chrome nut over the wheel studs. I lost one of the front wheel covers when I hit a huge rut on the Ohio interstate. On the way off it also broke the TST 507 feed thru sensor which set off the TPMS alarm. A few tense moments until I realized I hadn't blown a tire.

I never thought about it but a hub cap over a flow thru sensor is a potential disaster.

Not sure which wheel covers Jayco is using today, but many of the covers have mostly "fake" chrome nut covers and 2 that are "real" and screw onto the threads that stick out through the actual Ford lugnuts. You may have received a "T" wrench with a thin socket wrench on the end to take off the two nuts. Then the cover will come off. The 2 chrome nuts to be removed usually had a "line" on each flat that distinguished them from the "fake" nuts. If you twist the fake nuts you can inadvertently damage the cover.

As far as the Ford lugnuts themselves, they are probably 7/8" hex and stamped on the face telling you to torque them to 140 ft/lbs. When I had Ford units I always carried a breaker bar, long extension, and a 7/8" 6-point impact socket in case I needed to change a tire.

My 2015 has the covers w/ the teeth. Only the teeth. I like the idea of the covers that need the nut to secure it.

On the other hand, I've pulled my covers off to get access to the valve stems from time to time, and I appreciate not needing a wrench to do so.

Hrm.

My old tire iron to pop them off, and a rubber mallet to get them back on. As soon as the budget will allow, will be getting the Tire Man valve system so I don't have to remove the wheel covers.

Someone earlier mentioned losing a cover in Ohio, as a resident I can indeed attest to our horrible roads!

I didn't know Jayco is now installing just a "press-fit" type cover on the new Cs. I always liked the Wheel Masters bolt-on type, you know they are not going to get knocked off by one of our Ohio "craters"!

And they literally only take a minute or two to get on or off, so don't let that scare you off if you ever need to upgrade your covers.

I've always used the biggest flat head screw driver I could find and just worked it around the cap. What am I missing here?
