Tankless Water Heater troubleshooting
I have a 2016 Grayhawk 31FS with a Girard heater. I suspected my water heater was failing, but after calling Girard they informed me it's the propane regulator. I replaced that and warm water became hot water.

Yes, they walked me through a number of tests over the telephone. I don't remember the specifics but it did require some temporary wiring rejigging.

Thank you for the advice. I shall try what you did next time I get time off during the week and let everyone know what was found.

update
I went through some basic steps with Girard yesterday and the tech could not help me find my issue. He escalated the call to a more senior advisor who sent me an e-mail this morning and said Girard no longer has replacement parts for the GSWH-1M and the system needs to be replaced.
I called Jayco and they gave me the P/N for a GSWH-2 replacement.

Just curious. How old is this GSWH-1M for which Girard no longer has replacement parts?

After our first year with the Girard, we replaced it with a Truma. Have never looked back and still love our Truma after almost 5 year of use!

2016. Not old at all as far as I’m concerned.

Can you share the issues you were having? I have the same year, same model and would like to be on the lookout for problems.
thanks

We replaced with the-2
When we first got our 2015 37FS in 2018 the Girard tankless had frozen and cracked. We replaced it with the new model that had the anti freeze feature. It worked good for several trips then we had trouble with the water not staying hot. We were only using the pump and had never hooked up to city water. But recently we have been using city water hook up and haven't had a problem. I think our pump is not keeping enough pressure to keep the heat on. We may have to invest in a new pump soon.

WE’ve had our Girard tankless heater since 2014. It is the original model with a clumsy temperature control that basically requires the user to guess the temp of the water flowing into the heater. Results is too cold, too hot, and annoying the hell out of us. That said, we love the fact that unless you turn off your standard water heater the on-demand saves gallons of propane. Not gallons of water, but definitely propane. At the same time, we can use hot water to shave, wash dishes, and for two showers and never run out of hot water. Can’t do all that at the same time, but you can take a leisurely shower and not worry about rinsing in cold water. I’ve been told by an RV repair guy that parts are no longer available for our model, so I think the bit about having to replace the whole unit is correct.

Had a Girard tankless in our 2017 28.5 RSTS. Bought the FW in 2020. Everything was working great till fan started making noise and started smelling burnt wires. General RV no help with extendted warrenty. Had old school gas electric Attwood water heater installed.

We also have a Girard on our 2017 Jayco Precept. It is still working OK. I did read that there is a solenoid in the unit that can bind in really cold weather, and you might have to tap on it to free it up.
I am interested in hearing about the regulator replacement.
If this Girard fails, I will try a Truma since I have heard so many good accounts. One thing that worries me about my Girard is that it has no way to descale it. Reportedly Truma has a way to descale.
