Question Replacing the tankless heater

Researching options and I have found that there are two basic styles/sizes of water heaters, those with a 12.75x12.75 opening/cutout and those with a 16x12ish opening/cutout. The Girard unit on the 2015 31FS is the smaller of the units.

To replace with a 6gallon DSI unit, I need about 18" of clearance. Is there that much room in the cabinet there or do I have to loose the spot where I shove my garbage can?

Anyone who has had theirs replaced care to comment, maybe post a picture?
My dealer's service advisor told me that no other hot water heater would fit, but I think I know better... Anything is possible given time, materials, and funding.

Thanks,

Greetings Campers,

Looks like a new version of the Girard Tankless water heater that will be coming out this fall. I'm just waiting on the specs from Jayco.

Best Regards,

Nick
