Reputable RV Dealership?

We're thinking of purchasing the newest Jayco Greyhawk, but friends and the internet are warning us away from the local Camping World dealer to which Jayco referred us. Everything I've heard and read about Camping World as a whole is shockingly bad and reading the reviews for the local dealership, they look shady as heck. I called Jayco and asked for a comprehensive list of dealers so I could research, but they aren't calling me back. That alone is actually making me question if I want to stick with my Jayco decision after all.

I'm looking for Dealer advice.

I don't want to play buying games; I have the means and desire to own this RV and I know more or less what I should expect to pay, (and what I'll lose driving off the lot), and what I should be receiving for my money. I expect whomever I purchase the RV from to under promise and over deliver. I expect that if a new RV has failure(s) that I'm not going to be given the run around. And, I expect that anyone I hand that much money to has good values and ethics which are reflected throughout their company, from front to back. Not getting that vibe from CW.

Would be grateful to hear your experiences and learn from the wisdom of those who've gone before me. Thanks!

You could check this link for dealers in your area:

https://www.jayco.com/tools/dealer-locator/

Also, keep in mind, most RV dealers aren't like car dealers. Very few will give you anywhere near that level of service. Plus, expect mechanical problems with ANY rig that you buy. The more items you can fix yourself, and not have to bring the rig in for warranty work, the less stress you'll have.

What you wrote is very true and a sad commentary on the RV industry.

I don't know anything about the CW location you're referring to and neither does anybody else on this forum as there are a lot CWs on Earth.

We purchased our camper from CW in Kansas City and couldn't be happier. The salesperson we dealt with was straightforward throughout the buying process. I think CW bashing is just pastime for a lot of folks, many of whom have never set foot on a CW lot.

We're I you, I would go to the dealership in question and see how it goes. I'm confident you can get a feeling one way or the other.

Then again, if you search "Camping World Reviews" it might not just be bashing.

Finding a reputable RV Dealer is about as hard as finding a reputable Used Car Salesman.

Don't get me wrong, they are out there and I have done business with them still. We don't take our Seneca to our Local CW any longer... not based on reputation, but based on our own experiences with them.

I did that.. twice... looking to drop some money, but the way they handled potential customers, completely turned me off. They have this "We're the Best" mindset and think they can dictate what the customer should do.

Somehow they forget who pays their salaries. It ain't Marcus Lemonis...

I would do it online initially or via phone. If you know what you want, contact the various dealers and ask them to give you a price. They can tell you what’s in stock, on order options, etc. have them send you a quote. Use this as a first round to down select. You can then get serious with a select few. Comparison spreadsheets are great.

I used Pan pacific in Morgan Hill, there were ok. The reason I say that is I don't know who you nearest none CW dealer is, however there are some dealers that will ship nationally or sell and do a fly and drive. I have no experience of any of them, the 2 I know are Manteca Trailer in California and Haylett RV in Michigan, as for how good they are I will leave that to others, but if you are willing to deal over email/phone and ship/collect and drive home they maybe options.

Nonsense. Don't let a spate of bad dealers knock you off a brand.

The good news is that there are really only two brands out there: Forest River and a dozen-small-guys.

Then it really doesn't matter where you buy it. Pick CW, Bob's Hot Tubs and RVs.
As long as you know what you're willing to pay and stick to it.

Don't sign up for all of the Options that CW will throw at you.

It's no different than buying a car, they'll sell you the RV for 33% off and then try to make it all back in the Finance Office.

Bear in mind, that most of us here might come off as sounding "bitter". Most of us are not. We just went into this game eyes wide open.

Reputable RV dealership is as much of an oxy-moron as military intelligence.

Hello. I'm pretty much a Gypsy, and can buy anywhere in the US but am hoping to stay in Texas, West of Texas and all the way up to Washington. (Left out the location of the dealer because I'm not trying to trash talk anyone, just trying to get guidance from the experience of others.)

Well Said! There are some good dealers out there.. but it is up to you to find who they are (sorry, but we can only share our own experiences), and walk away when you are starting to question integrity.

The purchase price/out the door cost - must be separated from any future service promises, commitments or unwritten deals they might make with you and the Service Department. Our purchase experience at CW was very similar to buying a 2009 F350 with a broken window, missing air cleaner and two fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror. They focused on getting new fuzzy dice, but would not put fixing the window or the air cleaner in the paperwork. All they said was "trust me" we can take care of it.

Our dealer wanted to keep our Seneca in the service lot a lot longer than we had owned it - It is like holding your RV for (Waiting for Parts Ransom)
. Not getting to use your new RV SUCKS!

Motor Homes 2 Go, a part of Terry Town RV in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They have been our go to dealer through out owning our Seneca. From Evan Shephard the salesman to Gene in Service they are great people. Best service and best price in the Country for Jayco and other quality RV's. 400 miles from us with lots of dealers in between and yet I pass all of them to go for this quality service.

Evan @ TerrytownRv.com

Just my opinion, your results may vary.

I would ask for referrals for not only a possible dealer but also a salesperson to deal with. Look for someone who has been there for a while. Deal with a pro and I mean that in a good sense.

I've had dealings with several CW dealers for myself and friends and I have never had a good experience. I would never buy from them based on my past history. While there may be a good one here or there, that does not appear to be the norm.
