Roku and RV Park WiFi

Just purchased a ROKU Stick and was intending to use it in our Jayco Grewhawk at RV Parks this year. Wondered if anyone had any experience with using them and if there are issues. Thanks

Does your model have an external antenna, for mounting outside the RV? If so, is it an Omni or directional antenna?

I would doubt if it will work. My experience has been parks don’t have the bandwidth to support streaming a movie. Depending on you location in the park you might be able to check email or send a text. Hope I am wrong.

My request to you is please don't do this. As said above even if you get it work most CGs have limited bandwidth and all you will be doing is taking away the ability of others to use that bandwidth. Many CGs also throttle bandwidth for connections that try use it for streaming so you may not be able to make it work in some places. In our favorite CG they not only throttle the connections but also limit the connection to 15 minutes and then you have to sign in again.

We have a small inexpensive refurbished Blu-Ray player and carry a rotating selection of disks, as well as rented disks from Netflix.

Roku and RV Park WiFi

All,

Thanks for your input. Did not realize there were these issues. I also intended to use it for home use so no loss. We do have an outside directional antenna and a blue ray DVD player that we use so I guess we will continue in that manner. Thanks again.

I purchased unlimited data from Verizon. The internet connection at multiple stops along the way has had weak internet. I tied my Roku to my Verizon log in and watch Netflix whereever there is a cell signal. Worth it to us to always be connected and for streaming.

Could you download things like movies and such from home using the Roku and then watch them on the road?
That's what we usually do.

Our fix for on-the-road Roku TV and hot spot from our cell phone is to go to the Netflix website and change the playback setting to the lowest setting under your account. It triples the viewing time available on a fixed data plan. Ours is 15 GB and we get 60 to 70 hours of Netflix with some Amazon video. Never use it all. The picture quality is good. You'll be bald pulling your hair with the CG buffering and stalls.
