I just came back fro Florida and took I80 to I84 and OMG. I84 in NY is terrible. Avoid if you can. Once you in CT its finally nice. Very quick thru Waterbury 3 lanes.

Someone always screws up by Exit 15 in Southbury CT.. Watch after exit 39.. I 84 follows a very serpentine path until exit 49 in Hartford.

That said the fastest way around NYC for us coming from ME to FL is through Hartford and Scranton PA.. and hitch to 81
84 in PA is not the nicest but the alternatives far worse.

They finished the upgrades on the east side of Waterbury and it is indeed great. Bad news is the plan to replace the double-decker I-84 bridge just west of downtown in the near future. That will be a traffic nightmare for years!

I travel regularly from Ohio to New England and unfortunately I-84 is a necessary evil to visit our family in CT. I-95 is definitely a no-no!

Agree, every time you travel its something else in different places, but yes I84 to I81 would be the way to go. I always say to avoid it but go that way anyway. You cant beat the scenery.

That bridge is a mess. It is an exception to smooth ride. Hang on tight.

We travel I-84 quite a bit and agree with the others, fine through CT but a nightmare in NY. It beats the I-95 alternative though.
