Running the radio without having the key on

Hello all, I just joined the forum 5 min ago and am anxious to see how this works. I have owned several motorhome before buying my 2021 22c redhawk. I have always had a separate sound system in the house section so I never had to use the radio on the dash. My problem is I can't operate the radio in the dash (only sound system in this unit) unless my key is turned on and the dash lights are lit. This motorhome has a switch by the house door that turns on speakers to the outside. I think there should be a way to operate the in dash radio without having the key on if they have an outside speaker switch. Surely your not going to have outside speakers on while your driving. Does anyone else with a 22c have this problem?

This will be no help, but I want to confirm that I can operate the dash radio in our 31FK without the key in the ignition. I wonder if someone miswired something?

Send a message via Skype™ to ALJO
Then bypass the ignition switch, but the chance that you leave the radio goes with it (battery drain)

So do you just push the dash radio button on without any other buttons on your 31?

They used to use a diode system that allowed the radio to work either with the key off or on. As was said I wonder if it is mis-wired or if the diodes are bad. There may also be a fuse feeding the radio from the house battery that has blown. Look behind the driver's side kick panel mine was back there.

Does your RV battery disconnect solenoid look like this? That has the radio fuse as well.

Seems like it depends on the model RV/Camper you have.

No help here either but our dash radio came with a remote control and I can confirm also that the key doesn't need to be on or even in the ignition. Sound plays inside the coach and outside with the switch near the door.

Where would that be? In the compartment with the batteries?

Yes. I found it. It looks exactly like yours. Mine are not labeled tho. Could one of those fuses be the culprit?

Ok, so I braved the weather and went out and checked both of the fuses, and neither had blown so I'm back to square one. Thank you though, that was a good tip.

Hi Tom, still waiting on jayco to help with this defect. My dinette table was the wrong size for my unit as it would not fold up correctly. Jayco has one on order and they said once the table is in, they would address the radio at that time. That was 2 months ago. Luckily neither item is a big problem and the rest of the coach has been perfect. I will repost with any new updates as I hope you will as well. Thanks

One of the fuses in the 12 volt fusepanel could also affect the radio operation when the engine is off.
