S2RV owners may want to check this

This was reported over on a Renegade board with the Valencia which is also on S2RV. Just checked mine and one of the 2 clamps on this line are broken. If the clamps break, the vibration can cause the line to shear off. If that happens, you lose air pressure. Valencia owner that had that happen was driving down the road, lost all air, and safely made it to the side of the road. Line had sheared off on one end. There are some replacement clamps either at FL or at Ace Hardware that are heavier duty. Ace Hardware parts are Jandord 61539. Need 2 or 3 depending on how many you want to replace.

Thanks for posting. Just checked mine and looks just like yours and RVermont's. The first clamp. Was confused as couldn't see the clamp. It had slid all the way down to the second clamp. Second looks good on mine. Are there any more lower? I didn't crawl under and it was getting dark. Thanks again.

This forum is as handy as a pocket on a shirt. I checked my compressor discharge line today and found both clamps were broke. Mine is a 2020 with 7K miles. I installed new clamps and even fixed an air leak on the 90 degree fitting on the air compressor governor. Thank you to everyone who shares their troubles and experiences. May everyone have a safe and happy Labor Day weekend.

Thank you for reposting!
Good reminder. Mine is OK so far, I’ve checked it any time I have the hood open.

I spoke too soon. We’re on a short trip this weekend. Popped the hood this morning, the top clamp has a crack starting. Bought a couple of those Adel clamps at a marine supply store today. $1.84 ea.

One would think that there would be a better rubberized clamp available for this compressor line, obviously quite a bit of vibration going on here. I think it was Rusty Nuts mentioning at some time about putting a larger washer on as the the hole in the clamp is much larger than the stud it is fastened to. On our 2018 M2 the Freightliner Dealer replaced our top one last year when it was in for a service and I see now it has broken again. That’s two in about 12k miles. So I’ll pick up a couple more clamps and try with a larger washer on the mounting stud under the nut.

Makes one wonder how long the compressor discharge tube will last. Most of the heavy trucks I’ve worked on had the stainless braided hose coming off the compressor, then maybe a hard pipe for a little ways.

Just changed that clamp. While standing there, I noticed something else. About 3” behind the second clamp, the hard pipe transitions to a flex hose. The swedged end fitting on the flex hose was hard against the transmission dipstick/fill tube. Would have rubbed a hole in the trans tube eventually. I put a big screwdriver in between the two and gave it a tweak. Now there is 1/8” clearance. Y’all might want to check yours.

Just took a look at the clamps on our this weekend and noticed two clamp on the hard air line were broken off and the clamp holing the trans oil indicator knob broken off as well. Went through the entire engine compartment replacing all clamps and adding "supports" under the clamps where it was possible in order to prevent just the clamp holding the stress of the line but rather the support brackets taking come of the load. Where the air line routes toward the back of the engine it crosses over the top of two threaded studs where it can rub through when the clamps fail. I also added rubber caps over the bare stud to prevent the line from rubbing on bare metal should the clamps and brackets fail in the future. The routing and design was not one of Cummin/Freightliner's strong points and either was the use of the cheap $.02 clamps that are one step above the aluminum foil.
