Sad story about my Jayco.

I have a 2008 Jayco Melbourne 29D. Love the motor home but this last week I had a sour experience.
We drove 900 miles to get to Idaho. Once we reached our destination the motor home quit running. Had lots of power but would not start.
Went to a Ford dealership in Hayden Idaho and they basically told me to go away. Their bays are not big enough to work on a motor home. Mechanics were not willing to work on it outside bays.
I guess my "beef" isn't about Jayco it's about Ford's customer service. They were not willing to help me in the smallest fashion. I found a shop that would accept my motor home but they are struggling with it since it's not their normal work.
Ford chassis & engine but 0 support.
Had to leave the motor home behind. Bought a tent and loaded my road to make the 900 mile trek home.

It sucks, but not all Ford dealers are like that. Ours took our 36' class A Tiffin (Ford F-53 chassis) in with no problem for recall work. Stuff happens. We've had plenty of stuff happen as well. But, that's where I take a plan B or C and run with it, and still have fun. No matter how bad it is, somebody has it a lot worse. Before the RVs, we had tents, when we've been without an RV due to issues, we still went, in a cargo trailer. If I get crazy and bent out of shape, my kids see this, and nobody has fun, therefore, I always make it work.

Did you check out Spokane for Ford and there's a camping world in Spokane also.

An unfortunate reality is that not all Ford dealers are equipped to handle a motorhome. I'm sure there is a Ford dealer SOMEWHERE that is equipped and trained to handle your problem.

Ford has a Motorhome dedicated line: 800-444-3311

They can direct you to the nearest facility that can work on your rig.

Since it is an E-450 it's no different than a van power train wise. Many dealers just don't have service bays big enough. We went throught that with the SENECA on the KODIAK chassis. Had to find medium duty Chev dealer most of the time even though the DURAMAX was the same as in the pick-ups.

I work at a Ford dealer and I can tell you, not ALL dealers have the ability to work on Class C's or A's. They require larger lifts and bays. But, they should have given you an alternative. That was wrong of them. Sorry for your bad experience.

Unfortunately, Ford customer service has dropped way down from what it was. I called their dedicated motorhome support line, and they gave me a list of three dealers in my area that would do warranty work on the Redhawk. NONE of them would do it.

So I emailed Ford customer support asking for a list of Ford dealers between here and Fort Lauderdale (where we are heading), so we could stop along the way. They responded telling me to call the 1-800 number.

I replied and explained the situation, and again asked for a list of Ford Dealers who will service the Redhawk power-train (paper, PDF, word doc, whatever), and they never replied. Sent a third email... again, no reply.

So here I am with a Ford warranty that I can't use. Great customer service!

Logans, make a post of your dilemma on the Ford Facebook page. You'd be surprised how many companies do not like seeing bad publicity on social media!

They should have handled it differently no doubt. We have a very good Ford motorhome service center here in Bozeman, MT. Figure 6.5 hours from Hayden. Hope you get your issues resolved!!

Unfortunately, I run into this with our cut-away busses too. In fact I have 2 2010 6.0s giving a no start when hot condition as I type. One is down at the local dealership waiting on diagnosis (it started running bad half way through its route). I suspect a broken rocker arm but its been 2 weeks at the dealer waiting. I called the other ford dealer in our county to look at our second hot no start and their diesel tech had quit and they hadnt found a replacement and really didnt want to look at. My next stop is just outside the county in a somewhat larger city.

OP, What engine in your MH? If its a 6.0, you may have a hard time finding a small town dealer who will work on it.

That's weird. When I called them last year the lady took my information, called a bunch of dealers to verbally confirm, than called me back later in the day w/ a list. The list proved to be accurate.

Like anything else in this world, I am sure their unwillingness to work on it was due to insurance.

What kind of work do you need? On the vehicle chassis or on the RV part of it?

It turned out to be the electrical board for the chassis itself. Ford did not have any so the shop that was working on my motorhome had one custom made in Florida and shipped to Idaho. Took 2 weeks and $2000 later but I got my motorhome back. Runs like a champ today.

It's unfortunate that the OP wasn't prepared with the information necessary to handle a breakdown. When you are traveling on a specialty vehicle with limited service availability you need to educate yourself prior to hitting the road. Perhaps the Ford dealer could have been a bit more helpful in making a referral but the ultimate responsibility is on the vehicle operator to know their options.

Thanks for posting this hotline number. Everyone with a Ford chassis should keep it handy in the event of a breakdown...
