Second LP tank via "stay awhile" connector
I have a 2010 Greyhawk 31 FS. We are camping for about 3 weeks, and the night temps are getting into the 30s. After one week, we've already run out of propane and had to disconnect, drive to the propane filling station, then re-set up. I've been looking at a "stay awhile" connector that is supposed to allow me to hook up a second, external LP tank. The threads on this product range from "simple" to install to "have it done professionally." Any thoughts or experiences with this?

Do you have an electric hookup? If so, look into a space heater. That way you can use the parks electric to heat your camper instead of using up your gas.

We ran into the same problem. We ran low on propane. We went to Walmart and bought a small 1500w ceramic heater. It suplimented the heat and allowed us to conserve a lot of propane. It was nice and quite as well. This of course assumes you have electric at your campsite. I intend to invest in a "stay awhile" device for those times when we have no hookups.

Thanks for the input. We typically always stay where there are full hook ups, so I think I am just going to use a space heater. I'm not sure why I never thought of that in the first place!!!

Well, one downside is that when your furnace kicks on it also heats your holding tanks to keep them from freezing. You might run into a problem if you are heating with a space heater only and the temps are below freezing.

There's a heating duct in the enclosed underbelly that pumps hot air in there once the furnace kicks on.

Are you sure about this? We have a 2010 Gretyhawk FS and I'm positive there is no heat ducted to the tanks

I think he was referring to RVs with enclosed underbellies. Most class C's do not have enclosed under bellies. Our class C's have pipes and tanks that are completely exposed to the outside air. Some like mine and probably your Greyhawk have 12v electric tank heaters but nothing on the water lines to prevent them from freezing. This of course in my mind makes it pointless to have tank heaters...
This all begs the question... What manufacturers make class C's with heated enclosed underbellies? It doesn't really mater as I just bought my Redhawk. I will be camping in warmer weather for the next 5 years!

I did the "stay awhile" install myself. Took about 15 mins total. Just make sure you position the hose fitting angles where you want them BEFORE tightening. You do not want to "move" them after you tighten (the instruction do mention this as well).

How much space does the "stay awhile" connector use? I don't have much space between the tank and my door. Does any one have a close up pic of it installed?

We have been staying in our 31FS for a couple of weeks now, while repairing our house. We have a small 750 watt electric heater. I thought it was a pretty weak electric heater on it's own. However, running it continuously helps a great deal to keep the RV temp more even. I can tell we use less propane when using the electric heater to help.
I also question the space this stay awhile fitting will take up in the cylinder bay. Hooking up a 20lb bottle would be very helpful, but yet more connections to ensure are tight and not leaking...

About 6-8 inches. I'll try to post a pic this weekend.
