Question Seeking info from Melbourne 24l owners

I'm new to the forum and seeking information on the Melbourne 24l. I am a widow and both my children live out of state. I think this would be a great option for my cat and I to travel and visit with. It is a 2017 and has 4,000 miles on it. I am a little concerned about the large slide. It's great for room, but wondering about how it will hold up. Since I will be buying this used from the first time owner, I won't have the 2 year Jayco warranty of the original owner. The owner bought it in January and is already selling it. He said his wife wants to spend more time with their grandchildren and they live in state. Looks like a great buy, but all advice and input welcome.

I think you might get a new one including the 2 year Jayco warranty for that? Or perhaps sellers might come down in price?

The dealer quoted a new one as $85,000. I looked on line and saw I could fly to Phoenix and buy a new one for $75. I printed that out and thought I might show them and offer $70. Haven't seen it yet. Thinking I might need to visit the dealership this next week.

That is EXACTLY how we got ours for $72,000. We showed them the written quote that was for $71,000 and said we really wanted to buy local but couldn't pass up the price in the Midwest. They came back at $72,000. That way you don't have to
give them a number first. We actually thought we'd pay up to $5,000 over the Midwest quote but they came in lower. I actually spoke with the group in the Midwest and they sent me a quote that I printed out

It's worth a try. I'd really like the 2 year warranty. This owner told me they flew to Ohio to pick it up! So they probably paid $75 and want all their money back. Thank you for your input!

Ours is actually the 24K and we really like it. 2 slides instead of the really large one. Also, ours is full paint on the exterior, adds about $3,000 to the price.

Looks like the k has more underneath storage. South Dakota doesn't have many motor home dealers, so it's hard to have much choice unless you travel. It would be nice to buy in state.

We wouldn't be able to get by with less underneath storage. But the short queen is a bear to put sheets on

Not the size of the sheets but the contortions we have to go through to make the bed

Amen, putting sheets on the bed and then fixing the bed every time we pull into a spot to spend the night is "fun." Regardless, we love our Melbourne 24L.

I see the slide doesn't have a cover over it. Has that been a problem at all for owners?

So far, it has not been an issue for us. We have tossed around the idea of having a slide topper installed but have not done so.

Just to share a bit on ours... I saw the perfect Greyhawk for us advertised on Craigslist. I called and politely made (what I thought) was a low offer.

I offered to pay what it was worth it - to me.
The seller declined.

We stayed in contact for a few more days, and I shared that the 2 year warranty was not transferable. After some back and forth negotiations, we struck a deal. A bit more than my initial offer.

It's hard for any seller to realize that what they paid for something is not what it's worth. Sometimes it takes a few days of it sitting unsold, for the seller to get motivated.

I've been on both sides. It was hard for me to grasp that what I spent on our first coach wasn't what someone was willing to pay.

My suggestion is to do that math, figure out what that one is worth to *you* and then politely make an offer. Who knows? They may take you up on it.

Good luck!!
