Seneca-Added Freightliner Mud Flaps

Added the red, white and black flaps to the back and moved the longer ones to in front of the rear wheel. I'm happy with the new look.

Bought them at the local Freightliner shop.

Here's a picture of the old rear flaps moved to in front of the dually. They had to be trimmed a bit. I used an old one as a template.


Also a picture of one of the old front flaps. Both had been torn up by the duallies at some point...made before the "H" brackets were added to prevent sailing of the flaps.


I installed the Freightliner flaps down a little further than the original ones. This was to give more coverage. It also makes the logo more visible. If you're thinking about doing this you need to add a filler piece above each Freightliner flap to allow them to come down. Also, the two "H" brackets were different lengths. I had to shorten one so that they were equal.

Had to remove the driver's side forward rear wheel mudflap going down the road, yesterday.

Currently wanting to figure out the future solution.

Did a search and found this thread.

Like the idea of the "Freightliner" logo on the rear flaps and understand the trimming to put the rear flaps on the front side of the rear tires.

What about the "H brackets on the flaps. Is this for both the front and the back of the rear tires? Forward flaps cannot force "H bracket" into the tires?

I had noticed the wearing of the tire tread pattern into the front flaps and realized they were rubbing the tires.

Thoughts and experiences, please.

Mine too except much worse. Why are these rear-well forward mud flaps necessary? I'm thinking about just taking mine off.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I guess that's my question, also. And by the time I have a chance to replace them, maybe I'll have the answer. We are on a cross country "Bucket List" trip of seeing all the States we haven't been in and finding the parts and time is hit and miss.

I guess my biggest question right now is the "H brackets". I'll post on this thread with thoughts and solutions as I find them.

As part of my very recent SeeLevel tank level monitor and hot water recirculation installation (http://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f5...s-39395-9.html) I had to tear apart both wheelwells thereby removing the original front and rear mudflaps. So I took a cue from our friend Andy (Shultz01) and replaced the rears with OEM Freightliner flaps I got from Amazon. I also moved what were the rear flaps to the front to replace the tire-damaged front flaps.

I did reuse the 4 "I" brackets but I had to shorten both rear brackets so as not to obscure the Freightliner logo. The passenger side bracket had to be cut a little more than the driver's because of the way it is mounted compared to the driver's side. I just cut them off with my chop saw and then re-welded them back together then I refinished and remounted them with stainless hardware. Then the flaps themselves go on, also used all stainless screws.

For the (new) fronts I did have to slightly trim each side to clear a suspension bracket, since the old rear flaps are slightly wider than the original fronts. But my tin snips made quick work of the plastic. And I secured each of the front flaps to the "I" bracket with stainless screws to (hopefully) keep them from contacting the tires like the original fronts did. My original fronts had only one screw and it pulled through the plastic allowing the flap to contact the tires. Must be a lot of air pressure buildup there. I am going to watch my new ones carefully and re-engineer Jayco's system if this new arrangement doesn't hold!

I forgot to add why I felt it necessary to replace the fronts. My Michelins seem to pick up and hold gravel very effectively. Get back on the highway and I hear it getting thrown out and flying around. I felt it better to first hit the plastic flap, rather than fly further and hit something else. I think it is "insurance" and not absolutely necessary, but Jayco installed them and they usually don't add something unless it was absolutely necessary. Even if what they added doesn't hold up long-term, like the front flaps!

Thank you all for the replies. I will eventually follow the examples given, but need to complete our "bucket list" trip to the Northwest, first. Plans will develop upon completion of the trip, or sooner if necessary.

I decided to go with these on my Embark. Preferred the white logo that was lower compared with the OEM red.

On a stop at a rest area I was doing a walk around and found the forward mud flap hanging on by one screw on top and one on the side with the flap and bracket getting polished by the dually tires. Luckily no damage to the tires and a good reason to carry a shop worth of tools at all times. I removed the remaining screws and have not decided on the corrective action but I think I might follow the lead here and move the rear to the frontside and replace the rear with either of the two flaps shown. Just not sure if I want to wallow in the freezing cold or wait till spring. Thanks for the photos.

I removed my rear-well forward mud flaps awhile ago. Just couldn't see a need and mine too needed repair.
