Seneca DEF

I'd like to hear how much DEF your using in your Seneca. I'm seeing about a gallon for every 500 miles.

Thanks

About the same. Always fill at Love's, back in the truck fueling area. Good price and easy to fill. I'm sure its a little more, but I work on the one gallon per light on the dash and always plan to fill when 2 lights are out. 50,000 miles in 3 years and going strong.

Def

Just did 2200 mile trip with car trailer and needed 5 2.5 gal boxes. I fear the DEF at the pump could be old so I buy boxes at Sams; what do you all do?

My thinking is that with all the trucks needing DEF at truck stops, it should be pretty fresh. And it sure is convenient.

Ditto! Exactly why we only buy at Love's truck stops.

Under load using a gallon every 3-500 depending is completely normal. It’s dependent on engine load so when you hear about trucks only needing DEF every 3-4 thousand miles it’s because they’re not running them hard.
I always try and buy at the pump, usually at truck stops, as it’s being turned over on a regular basis. In the box - get a DEF checker and make sure it’s fresh before you put it in your tank if there is any question.

It's a 50:1 ratio (or 2%) which is right on for 500 miles (based on 10 miles per gallon).

I buy the Supertech 2.5 gallon jugs at walmart. The last one was $7.49 I think. How much is DEF at the pumps per gallon? I just buy 4 or 5 of them at a time and store it in a side compartment.

Under $3 a gallon at the pump. I keep a 1 gallon jug for the just in case but haven't had to use it yet.

I usually do not buy fuel at the tractor trailer fuel isle because they usually add a surcharge if a card is used. At the car pumps most do not.

the 5 cents a gallon charge is worth it for me to gain the benefit of the satellite pump and def all in one stop. Lets say your doing 60 gallons...thats $3.00. With gas at $3.19 (with the charge) where I am at, thats $191.40 vs $188.40. its also well within the difference in prices between nearby stations so I dont mind paying it.

I use about the same as everyone has stated in my 2018 Seneca. I have a question for the forum...….how many times and days have you had to put your Seneca in the shop? For me, over 120 days in the 8 months owned! I am starting to ask myself what does a LEMON smell like???? The old sarge says.

Regards

I havent had mine in at all.....but I just tend to fix minor things myself rather that wait a month to get in, having it sit at the dealer for weeks and then getting it back half-assed work and then redoing their work to make it right....but thats just me. What have you had to have it in for?

What's DEF?

I tow my fiver with a Ford diesel that I deleted (removed the DPF & installed a tuner) the day I bought it. Haven't used a single drop of DEF, plus my fuel economy is about 2 mpg better, as compared to my previous Powerstroke.

If I had a diesel motorhome and was using that much DEF, I would delete it as well.
