Seneca living room slide

Greetings everyone!

The other day I retracted my living room slide and it came in fine but when I went to checked it visually the slide out topper did not retract. Can these springs just come unwound or did it break internally? Of course my warranty expired two weeks ago.

I had this happen on bed slide once. It had been raining and then was frosty in morning. A few minutes in sun and bang when it rolled up, no damage. Next morning same only no sun so took warm water and poured over topper with slide still out then rolled up without bang. Once dried no more problem as well as in warmer weather.

We had this same thing happen on our living room slide on our Seneca. We got it to retract by bumping on the outside cover. After we got home I started looking at it and the top aluminum cover was down tight to the roller and pinching the fabric to the roller. Looking at it more, the screws that held the end cap on the unit had broke on one end, allowing the end cap and outer cover to drop down onto the roller. It had already rubbed a holes in the fabric before it was discovered so new fabric and screws and it’s back to normal.

we have had ours tightened twice now... the original toppers are still up there on our 2015 and the fabric is starting to show it's age. It cost us about $150 to have a Carefree mobile unit come out and re-tension them.

Worth the expense when you get into cold country and have ice/snow pile up on the slide covers. Our first experience was when we had 2inches of ice(melted snow) overnight accumulate on the topper and when it was time to put the slide in - it bound on the chunk of ice and bent the metal cover...

Thank you everyone, i hope it will be that easy. Thinking about it now we got caught in a hail storm this summer that had tennis ball size hail. I had to replace the topper on my bedroom because it was tight and some of the hail went through the topper. The living room topper wasn't tight and the only damage i saw was a rip on one end, perhaps my cover is dented. I'll look this weekend and let you know. Glad to hear SloPoke is no longer in MN. Will be Tuscon in March for the FMCA convention.

Because of debris, like pine needles or a birds nest, we have had ours jam up and not retract. Had the dealer fix it once and then after watching him, its really not difficult. In the ends of the cover tubes there are long allan head machine screws. One on each end. Unscrew those and the cover flops down for cleaning a debris removal. Once, I had the large slide cover come off the center roller and it had to be sprung back. Just prying and heavy pressure. When it is free it will retract to be tight. Watch yourself, dodging it could cause you to loose your balance on the ladder. This description and getting the ladder and tools ready, has taken longer to write than the time it takes to resolve, once you know what you are doing.

Agree... just be sure the right screws are removed when flipping the cover open. you don't remove all of them.

You guys are the best. Today I thought i was removing the right screws but when the cover hit the ground I guess I didn't do the right ones. The good news is it didn't hit the camper on the way down. And more good news with the cover off the slide out cover retracts as it should. On my 2017 I only have one screw on each end. It was the cover holding it back everything else was clean.
