Looking for a way to protect our 2004 CRV from road debris. Our 2016 Seneca’s on a Freightliner M2 chassis, so I guess mud-flaps are readily available, but wondering if something different is better suited for toad protection.
We are just about ready to make our first trip with tow dolly and toad. I purchased the rock guard for the front of the tow dolly but, to be redundant, would also like to purchase a hitch mounted or undermounted total mud flap to prevent the car from being hit with road debris. I am excited to see the responses here.
This is what I learned on a caravan to Alaska last summer. On my Seneca I added an extension to the ones they came with. They hung down to about 4 inches off the ground when in the normal operating position. Any lower and we were told they would pick up rocks and throw them at your toad. The class A's with the mud flap across the back were advised to remove them. One gentleman who didn't ended up with rocks all over the front of his toad an F 150 so it sat up a little more. He even had rocks on his hood up against the windshield. This happened after driving the top of world highway into Alaska which is 98 miles of gravel. I was following him and I had no damage to my Canyon.
So just add an extra links to the existing mudflap? How did you do that? It sounds as if all you need to do is just get at the right height to minimize the deflection so the Rocks don't get their correct bounce to hit up on your car?

This was kind of a last minute thing done in a campground as we were about to leave. Went to an auto store and bought a similar mud flap (thickness) that is on my camper and used pop rivets with backing washers to hold the two together. Given time I would have replace the mud flaps with longer ones.
