Seneca rear camera audio

Does anyone with a newer Seneca have rear camera audio ?

Mine doesn’t have sound and I’ve found the on off button for sound (it mutes the radio).... but no sound.

Jayco customer service says I should have sound but not sure where else to look. Maybe pull the dash apart and pull the radio to ensure the audio is plugged in.

Any other ideas ?

I can’t get sound on my 2018 37 TS. “Mic on” button made no difference on mine.

I had a '08 GH31ss that had sound on/thru the backup camera. Wife would talk to me, and ask me questions as well when we were spotting the unit. Good thing she could not hear my responses.

The overhead console had a mute button and it worked. Seems like the sound came from the overhead console as I never used the crappy radio in the unit.

You need to check to see if the Mic Installed box is checked. From your home screen, select the Camera icon. At the bottom of the camera screen you should see a gear icon for settings. If you don't see it, just touch the bottom of the screen and it should come up. Touch the gear icon and you should then see the Mic Installed with a box next to it. Touch it to put a check in it. That should activate it. (I hope I am telling you correctly - doing this from memory) If it is already installed and still no sound, you will need to remove the dash panel and then the 2 screws holding the radio in to pull the hub out. Remove the remote before removing the dash panel.
Note: when you pull up the settings on the camera screen, there is also a mic mute button on the left side of the screen)

Yup, found that button.... it mutes the radio like it is trying to turn on a camera mic.

The unit can be difficult to hear and you need to turn the unit up pretty loud to hear anything. I have tried it when backing the unit up but really could not hear anyone. So I gave up trying.

Use the cell phone on speaker, just lay it down and talk to each other that way.

That's what we do right now... just use cell phones

Jayco seems to think that the rear audio should be working.
Time to add that to the warranty repair list. See what can be found.

Update (with no real progress yet)...

Jayco says the rear audio should work.
Garmin says the rear audio should work ?
ASA electronics (where Jayco gets camera) says rear audio should work ?
Local dealer says it doesn't work.....

I'm trying to find out what type of adapter (if there is one) is used to plug the camera into the Garmin. It's going to be a week or so before I can tear my dash apart to look for myself. Anyone have a dash apart and have any pics or thoughts that maybe this is an issue with the adapter between the camera and the Garmin ?

The camera microphone is connected to the Garmin hub with a black audio cable. Not RCA cable but an audio cable. I took my 2018 Seneca HJ in to work on the radio. I was picking up static from the cab A/C fan. They found a new ground which fixed my original problem but on my way home on the interstate I realized I had a new noise from the radio. Realized it was coming from the camera microphone. Tried muting the microphone through the radio controls but no luck. Even tried unchecking the Mic Installed box on the screen and that didn’t turn it off. Finally took the dash apart and pulled out the hub. Found the audio cable around the middle top of the back of the hub. That killed the noise from the microphone. Wish I could remember better exactly where the cable was.

X2

We have tried to use it a few times, mostly when hooking up our trailers to the Seneca. We had to turn up the volume nearly full - and the background noise was nearly drowning out everything.

We ended up reviewing how we do it, and decided that the camera audio was not worth it...

Now if you have a bunch of your kids playing behind the MH, and you want to sit in the cab to watch them (can't reason why this would be) then it might be useful...

Walkies work best for us as the 37K sound is not audible.

I added a second monitor and license plate camera for hitching up.

I’m just really driven to figure out why everyone (Jayco, Garmin, ASA) all think the rear camera/audio works flawlessly but yet it doesn’t work.... confused as to how this can be such a mystery.

I have thought of this a few times... one of the ones that can connect to your phone via WiFi/Bluetooth that does not mean that I have to install another thing in the cab... So far, DW is awesome at guiding me back to the trailer, and lowering the trailer jack so it comes down on the ball - I take it from there!
