I just had all my doors replaced under warranty so I am speaking from recent experience.
This is what is supposed to happen:
- As you slide the doors open and shut, you will note that there are stops that "connect" the doors together, so the first door pulls the second door and the second pulls the last.
- When the doors are all open (pushed to one side), the latch swivels down and hooks the handle of the first door,
- Since the the first door is now latched, the first door holds back the second, and the second holds down the third, all of the doors should be locked.
Real life problems:
- Glass panel becomes loose from the hangers/rollers, causing the panels to be misaligned and/stuck (this was my problem),
- Bathroom walls and/or top shower track are not perfectly square.
Any of these problems will cause the doors to not open all the way, and if they don't open all the way then the latch won't reach the handle.
