Side view mirror

We own a 2016 Greyhawk.

We had an issue.... the passenger side view mirror fell off. It was held on by a small retaining ring. Teeth, over time, broke off the ring and.... it fell off the post it was attached too.

Yes, poor Engineering. The mirror actually hangs from a post and is held by this ring.

I called the company, Ramco Engineering of Elkhart Indiana, and the would not sell me a new retainer ring but would sell me a complete new mirror... at about $700.

A part worth a couple bucks is the point of failure for this expensive mirror.

Terrible customer service to not sell me the ring.

I am attaching photos.

Anyone else have this problem?
Any solutions or source for the fastener?

Not yet.. 2017 model here.
I wondered what held that on.

Mirrors are ‘safety’ equipment and many claim you have to buy the whole thing. No parts. Edit: some replacement parts on their website. Not those though..

Do you think lube would have helped this or was the mirror hit?

It wasn't hit.
Simply swing out and it dropped off.

I found only 2 "teeth", telling me others came off over time. Of the remaining, 1 was cracked, which you can see in the pic.

This push on clip retaining ring holds the weight of the mirror, on a very small lip of the post.

I can only imagine the bouncing wire the ring.

Those are usually referred to as "star locks", "push nuts", or "push-on rings". You could try to take to a place like Fastenal to see if they could find something with similar dimensions.

Tried Applied, like Fastel, but only smaller ones.
Will try Fastenal.
Thanks.

I broke mine by pushing the mirror to far out a couple of months back and it broke at same location as yours. Called Ramco Engineering and they sent me a brand new mirror for $310 for the mirror and shipping. Got it within a week

Wow definitely a weak point. I believe since Thor took over they switched from that mirror to a different company or model from pictures that I have seen. I wonder how the factory E450 tow mirrors would work since you can find them cheap on eBay.

2016 Greyhawk 31FK here and just had the same exact problem as original poster. I went to push the mirror and in as I normally do, POW, mirror pivot exploded. I guess I am calling RAMCO as soon as they open. Leaving for a 10 hr trip on Thursday evening so this will be interesting! May try to put some tap screws in as a temp fix.

No temp fix

Hi Race Chase.

There really is not temporary fix.

Remove the inside plastic cover (triangle shape) then unplug the video and electrical lines.

You can then remove the dangling mirror without further damage.

An easy repair, but costly.

My problem was, at the time I was in Newfoundland and Labrador....

If that happens to mine (my mirror is diff’t) I think I’d just get a FOMOCO E450 replacement and call it a day. I find the side cameras are useless b/c of the delay.

I had the exact same problem. I have a 2016 Redhawk. The mirror fastening section started to fail after one hard dirt road with about 3k miles on the thing. It took another 3.5 years to fail, but it did and it totally fell off while driving - shocking.
I bought different mirrors, from velvac, that mounted to the door the same but had a completely different design. I was able to bolt them on easy enough, but wiring harness is completely different, and now I'm working though that trainwreck. Hopefully I'll have the electrical working on my mirrors before spring hits, but either way, at least I have a mirror that I can see out of that shouldn't fall off going forward.
