Slide topper questions

We just got back from a week boondocking in Williams. Great to get out of the heat of Lake Havasu City for a while. We had a couple rain showers and this was the first time I had been out in the rain with My Seneca. The slide topper filled up with rain and eventually when it got breezy a bunch of water came out all at once. Is this normal? What is the tension the topper material should be at under normal conditions. When you are level, should it be sufficient to allow the rain to drain off without sagging? Just wondering.

My topper was added by dealer (not factory) when I bought it.
It always fills with water when it rains and I have to bring in my slide to drain it.
My awning is a different story as it’s electric auto-dump and works fine.
I’ve read other threads that people put a ball or something under slide topper to keep from puddling water and that seems to work for them

Hello. Hearing you spent time in Williams, AZ, makes me jealous. Love the Italian restaurant/brewery, there. I've found that not all slide toppers are created equal. After a good rain, I make a point of just climbing up to the roof with a light weight broom and push any settling water off the slide toppers. New toppers are usually tight, but as they get old and rained on, they eventually hold water and possibly stretch. No big deal. If you're out camping- especially in a Seneca- you're experiencing good times. Happy Trails...

Angle probkem

Check the angle of the slide topper coach to outer edge. Often they do not have enough downward angle to drain rain water. This is more problematic on longer slide outs. Relocate mounting on slide out lower or use inflatable pool noodle or pvc tubing to lift the topper in the middle for drainage.

On my unit the fabric is cut to just slightly longer then the distance when the slide is fully extended. . So it stays pretty tight. I will get some slop during snow storms but never any rain on either the bedroom or the living room slide. It should be adjusted to stop when the slide is fully extended. I wonder if they allowed to much travel or left the roll too long.

Try shoving an inflated $2 beach ball under it.

Our Seneca has been like that since day one. Even Dew will pool on the slide topper on our big slide. Our bedroom slide has enough slope for the water to drain off, but the big drivers side slide always pools water when it rains.

Here is some hard learned advice: When DW is bringing in the big slide, be sure to keep the kids, dogs and yourself far away when that water comes down as the awning rolls up.

I used to stage stuff on the ground to put in the lower bays once the slide is put in - that will get drenched if you don't remember.
