Slideout leak

Greetings,

Had water leak in bedroom after closing the slideout. It already happened several times. It's a three week old rv, a jayco 22c. Any comments or recommendatios?

Check the seal around the bottom and side rails of the slide out. I had the same thing happen to my Precept and I was looking all over the place trying to figure out how water was getting in. The wide trim around the outside of the slide is what they call the rails. There should be a bead of sealant along the top of the bottom rail where it meets the wall of the slideout and along the inside edge of the two vertical rails where they meet the wall of the slide on both the left and right. Any gap at all in the sealant will allow water intrusion. Jayco recommends a product called clear Quad Seal for use as a sealant in these areas. Good luck in resolving your issue because nothing is worse than a water leak.

Do you have slide covers? Water on the slide roof will run off on the floor if there is any there.

Just a guess, cause there's not enough info to make any intelligent resolution.

Leaks do need to be addressed immediately.

The rv is only three weeks old. Should I call dealer to fix it. Must be under warranty. Do you gave any pics of the areas mentioned?

as Norty says, when water pools on a slide roof and you will pull it in without removing the water it will run off in the inside.

What year is it? Did you buy it new? If so, then you will have a 2 yr warranty. If you bought it used you’ll only have what the dealer gave you. Give us a little more detail. Also, when you notice water inside the slide is it while it is raining or immediately after a rain or as previously mentioned when the slide gets pulled in is it coming from the top where water could have pooled? In my previous post I was referring to water running in along the bottom when it would rain and it wouldn’t make any difference if the slide was open or closed.

If the leak only happens when you close the slide after a rain, you have water on the roof of the slide. I always check the top of my slide before I bring it in, making sure there is no water, leaves, sticks, pine cones, etc., that could hang up or damage the seals.

I learned the hard way too but it was leaves and pine straw more than water. Did the ladder and blower for a year which wasn’t that big of a deal for me. What pushed me for slide toppers is the head of our bed is in a slide. A gentle rain all night sounded like a monsoon. Noise so loud it was uncomfortable. Wish I bought them sooner.

I agree that it’s most likely water pooling on top of your slide. Before pulling the slide in after a rain you will need to go up on a ladder and sweep or wipe the water off. You might have your dealer check the roof for any large depressions and check the top slideout seal. It isn’t intended to wipe the roof clean as the slide is closing but it should help in keeping the water out. Some obviously do a better job than others. As pfflyer said adding a slide topper will help too. Good luck.
