Slides in before retracting Jacks

Reading the owners manual that came with my 2017 Greyhawk 29 MV I am a little puzzled about the setting up and the breaking camp procedure. If I am reading and understanding correctly it says to level the coach first by deploying the leveling jacks and then run the slides out. Then when you start to break camp it says to retract the jacks and then bring the slides in. It just seems to me that the slides should be brought in first while the coach is still level. Am I just not reading correctly or is that the procedure that should be used?

Not to mention the camper rocks a lot when retracting the jacks. I always pull the slides in then retract the jacks.

Yep. Jacks are usually the last thing before hooking up to the hitch. Keeps everything solid while you are going in and out breaking down. IMO.

Slides have always been kind of a white knuckle moment for me. A sigh of relief when they all go in properly...

I've had some issues with slides in the past and was told by the manufacturer of the slide mechanism that it's best to have the coach level and stable prior to deploying or retracting the slides.

I can't think of a logical reason why one would stabilize and level the coach to deploy the slide but then not do the same when retracting it....

Our slides should not be so delicate that can't wth stand the coach not being leveled or not. My fifth wheel actually could be hitched and moved with the slides extended. I never tried it but the company stood by their design and I saw them move fifth wheels at the factory slides out. The Winebago owners manual says if breaking camp after a rain us the leveling system to essentially shake the coach from side to side before bring in the slides.

I agree with you. But there's nothing worse than having everyone ready to break camp and have an issue. I'm a little gunshy and now having four of them on a new, unfamiliar coach that isn't proven yet, I'm always relieved when they all go in.
