Wouldn't that be fun? Sound asleep and the slides start closing in, in the middle of the night. Nah, I'll make that decision myself.

Come on guys (I know that was not politically correct), you need to add a little soft music and lighting to be activated just prior to the slide starting its "RETURN TO THE TRAILER". Maybe LED's flashing on the floor, like a set of runway approach lights, or flashing to the rhythm of the music.

When you have guests sleeping over, maybe the sound track from that 80's movie "War Games". The ultra loud sound of the big "VAULT" door closing. That will surly awaken you to get your lawn furniture secured.
Or a recording, "Alert, Alert.... the TT slide is being returned to its travel position due to mother nature's decision to test the my center of gravity with its extended living space by increasing the force of air that is attacking the curb side of the TT. No action is necessary on the interior but you may want to secure any items that are currently blowing around your campsite... Ding!!!! Ding!!! Please ignore this alert, as it is only a test... should this have been an actual alert, I would have yelled louder. Thank you and goodnight. Please resume sleeping at this time.

Way too subtle! We need blaring air raid sirens and all lighting switching to red flashing emergency mode. “Wind event imminent, please take cover, initiating anti tip precautions in 15 seconds!” “Please remain calm and proceed to your designated slide free areas immediately!”

I will send you the complete package with 200db indoor/outdoor system with ear piercing high pitched sirens, 2 indoor, and 4 outdoor, 1000 watt bright illumination flashing devices along with weather proof 200 watt audio to alert your fellow campers … I am sure that they will thank you if it ever activates. Ok, I will not send you the package.

Don't forget the automatic red flairs that will be ignited around the TT, with the speaker outputting your alert.

Enjoy!!!

We went through 24 hours of high winds (gust to 50 mph) and torrential rains during one of our camping trips last year. Fortunately the slide and all of the seals held up and we experienced no leaks or damage.

I agree with in. Especially since you won't be using it during the storm. I'd button it up as much as possible.

X2, I would fill the tanks, to lower your center of gravity.

We have a slide with no topper. We were in high wind conditions in Arizona where the rain/sleet were literally horizontal. I considered pulling in the slide to lower the surface area but we stayed put. We have X-chocks, along with heavy rubber chocks so I wasn't concerned about the TT shifting. No leaks, no problems, no movement. In the a.m. Camp Manager said gusts had hit 60 mph.

Absolutely and legs down. Or standard storm approach is slides in and legs down, power disconnected. We've been in a number of really heavy sqawls and this seems the best way to weather the stuff, whether in the unit or not. Probably best to not be under trees, if possible. Good luck.

We have never experienced extreme wind while in a campsite but I'm sure that is coming when we go back to the open areas of UT and CO.

After reading this thread and the good responses I think I will be checking the slide for nests weekly while in one location by visual or by closing the slide occasionally.

Now the awning is another matter...never leave it out overnight or while gone from the campground during the day.

I would not weather any storm that was over or near Tropical Force. No amount of water would keep it from turning over or being picked up.

We hook up and drive!

I forget some of these postings are not just in the Super C Forum. Our experiences have been with a Jayco Seneca on a Freightliner M2 frame. We've even considered that the wind may dump us over, but don't feel we would go more than 90 degrees in the very worst of conditions. In this type of situation you are talking about just survival anyway and the best would be below ground or in a concrete bunker, but sometimes that's not the conditions you have to deal with. Flying debris is going to be your biggest enemy. Think ahead, prepare and live to fight another day. if you survive, what a "Sea Story"!

Well we road out Zeta at my son's home in St. Rose, LA. 100 mph gust but all is good. The campground (Natalbany Creek RV Park) where we left the fifth wheel only had max winds of 50 mph. Just got back to the CG and all is well with our 5er!!

Point your bow into the wind, if you can manage it.

But the best advice is Norty1's - bug out, leave, vamoose, am-scray...
