So happy to have my RV right now
Thanks to levels of ineptitude and incompetence not seen before out of a major utility, I'm so happy to have my RV... I have a fridge/freezer that can run on propane and a tank full of fuel to run my generator should I need it...

Someone needs to initiate a class action lawsuit to cover losses incurred during the utility shutdowns. Here in SoCal the outages are supposed to start Thursday night but so far my city has not been identified as being one of the affected areas. I may go get my trailer out of storage just in case.

Fortunately, when I had our house built, I had the whole house wired for a generator. We had power out for a week a couple years ago. There was only 2 of us on the whole street with generators so once we switched to generator power, it was pretty much life as normal. We have gas heat so no problem there either.

Yeah - what a mess all around. I told someone that if I was governor or better, I'd have all the PG&E senior leadership locked into a hotel conference room. And no one comes out until they have a comprehensive plan - short and long term.
Right now, I wouldn't care a rats patootie about how we got into the mess, my only care would be a solid plan to get out.

Even feeling it a bit down here in SoCal, not as bad as you guys up north. But still all the same incompetence. Politicians and utilities.

Why does your power go out? We have all the power we need down south. I bought a generator for my home, and have never got to use it.

High winds coming in, and to reduce their liability for wild fires the utilities are shutting the power off in large areas of the state. And this isn’t even a major event and just the first of the season.

What choice does the utility company have? The laws allowed the people to sue them into bankruptcy so now that they try to protect the people of the state people want to complain. You can’t have it both ways. If this is the future looks like a generator is in everyone’s future. I know the blackouts hurt but if it saves lives that’s what matters.
Good luck with the Fire season

I somewhat agree with you. The part that irritates me is that in a lot of cases the utility was aware of the potentially bad equipment days before the wind event, and did nothing. Not even an inspection to a reported issue, good bye paradise. The state let’s the tree huggers dictate policy, so the forests decay into tinder boxes. It’s a multilayered problem that has been building for decades. No one wants to solve it, the government and utilities both have liabilities and just are pointing fingers at each other.
2 years to retirement and I’m headed East 😁

We have lived in our rv in the back yard on several occasions and it it a godsend. Once for 2 weeks while our wood floors were re-finished and several times after hurricanes when power was out or somewhere else when we evacuated in style!
Just knowing that you have somewhere comfortable to go in a local emergency is calming.

Several. PG&Es biggest problem is they chose to pay dividends to shareholders rather than properly maintain their equipment... The Camp fire that burned Paradise down last fall was caused by faulty PG&E equipment they were notified of THREE DAYS in advance... PG&E would rather severely impact commerce and peoples lives so they can pay dividends rather than properly maintain their equipment. I feel absolutely zero sympathy for this corrupt and incompetent company. It's 2019, turning peoples electricity off because the wind is blowing is simply absurd beyond words.

Enjoy it while you can. After the next election the process will begin to make gasoline and propane illegal. So your refrigerator and generator will become useless.

I see that Generac's stock price shot up 9% yesterday. Any correlation to all of this?
If it weren't for family and career I'd be so outa here....

I bought this portable solar panel that has a USB port for charging cell phones, iPad, etc. I have one in my car and one in my tow vehicle for “Just in Case”. Works great and not that expensive.

Absolutely. The market demand in CA for generators/battery storage/solar is skyrocketing right now...

Maybe hold back your payment to them, tell them that due to high winds, it might blow the check out of your hands so your going to wait until you deem it safe to mail.

We lost power last week to a freak early snowstorm. We had the house wired for a generator last year. Went out and bought one, 5500/6750 watts, and had a cozy house as the temp dipped into the 20s at night. Got power back the next day, but glad we can just fire up the generator, plug it in, and live pretty normally. Just no hot tub. The trailer was the next back up, but it would have been a bit tight.

Me too!
I’m a newbie - just bought my Jayco 154bh in August. First RV ever. Knowing my little rig was sitting in my driveway ready for me and my grandson was so comforting during the latest outages in Northern California. My son is a Marine stationed elsewhere and he sent me a message concerned for our safety as he heard rumors of planned looting. I let him know we were ready to relocate at the drop of a hat and had enough supplies, fuel, etc to keep us safe. He was able to relax and focus on his duties instead of worry about me back home. . Made this MoM feel good.
