Sony External Stereo

Problem:
- outside Sony stereo volume knob does not work anymore
- stuck about mid-range
- other buttons work fine
- remote does not adjust volume either
- can't seem to reset

Tried:
- totally disconnected power
- cleaned faceplate connector
- called Sony (no help)
- read the book

Before I open the faceplate and look at the knob, any ideas???

Thanks.

That didn't work...

Opened the faceplate, used electro cleaner on volume potentiometer.

Still no response.

Must be fried or stuck in DEMO.

Are you within the 2 yr warranty period? Call Jayco service if yes. Should be able to get a warranty replacement.

Called and they said to take to local dealer. Local dealer says, sorry but I can't take any external, non-dealer acquired, coaches. Ive pulled the unit and ready to send to Sony Repair...or replace.

"Ive pulled the unit and ready to send to Sony Repair...or replace."

Probably the best solution. Holidays may slow response, but you should get it resolved and you are controlling the repair. Always the best way.

Update:

Pulled the radio out, left alone for three days while I was away on business, put it back in last night for one more test....it works fine. Although I had disconnected the power once, I gather I had not let the internal battery drain long enough to clear the stuck programming.

All is better...actually great.

That makes absolute sense. Like rebooting the computer. I wouldn't have thought about the internal battery keeping the problem going. Thanks for sharing and documenting here for future help for others with same problem.

Just a suggestion in case you run into another problem like this with a part you're willing to replace yourself. When you talk with Jayco (either phone or via the form on their website), let them know that you'd rather not go to a dealer for the replacement and be without your coach for days / weeks.

Twice now, I've had Jayco ship me replacement parts directly (outside TV and keyless door lock). They have been very accommodating when I've requested that in the past. They even sent the parts overnight.
