+1 for a small ceramic cube.
We use it to supplement the furnace, and we don't have heat strips in our roof-top AC units. Ours has a variable speed fan too, so it will push quite a bit of air if we need it to. If we get it all set right, the furnace only kicks on a few times if at all.
If it gets REALLY cold, the one little cube has trouble keeping up and the furnace runs more, but if it's not too cold for too long, the furnace rarely runs at all.
I agree with the benefits of an oil-filled unit, but the little ceramic cube is just so darn convenient; cheap, small, easy to store, effective, no risk of leak... Plus, we don't have a whole lot of really cold weather where we typically camp in the winter, so the little cube does great 97% of the time. For the other 3%, we just burn a little extra propane...
