Spare Tire

Hello. My wife and I just bought a 2023 Entegra Qwest 24T. It did not come with a spare tire. The dealer did not recommend one. We are new to class C motor homes. Does anyone carry a spare tire?

Personal preference, really. Some feel it sufficient to rely upon roadside assistance, others carry just a spare tire (no wheel), and those like myself carry a mounted spare. I opted for the mounted spare so as not to feel the wrath of a wife having to wait for hours in case the roadside assistance could not help, or have the need to go and find another tire if it wasn’t repairable, etc.

I bought a spare wheel from a local guy who services FedEx Ground delivery trucks. He had plenty of Ford E450 wheels with or without tires on them.

I bought an 8 ton bottle jack from Harbor Freight (under $30), a 24" 1/2" drive breaker bar, a 1/2" drive 6" extension, and a 22 mm impact socket. I have wood typically used to chock or level the RV that can be also used for a hard level surface for the bottle jack.

If I don't feel like changing it out myself, roadside assitance is an option. At least I have all the necessary tools.

I posted a few weeks ago about the change of heart I had. I was going to rely soley on roadside assistance. A blowout allowed me to test this and I was not happy with how it went down.

I too think -- at the very least, carry enough stuff to remove the wheel. I'm going to go a step farther and buy a complete spare and carry it from now on.

I would suggest also have a pry bar or something to remove the wheel simulators/hub caps.

After acquiring all the necessary tools, I would try and utilize the tools at home to see if you have everything. A dry run, if you will. That way, you'll know for certain rather than being stranded.

One more thing I tossed in the Amazon cart when we got back from that trip - reflective, high-vis, safety triangles. Or, in this case, the more modern LED Flashing equivalents

I also have a high visibility safety vest. I want to be seen if I'm working on the side of the road
