Spare tire carrier on Redhawk bumper

Like all who have purchased the Jayco Redhawk we have no spare. Has anyone put a spare tire carrier on a Redhawk bumper? Do you find that it is strong enough to handle the weight and vibration? We want to carry a spare with us as we travel. No... we will not change a flat, that will be left to someone with proper equipment and skills. Thanks for your input.

Are you planning to carry a wheel and tire?

Yes... about 75 - 80 lbs plus weight of carrier. So probably about 100 lbs totals.

I just carry the tire without the wheel. Store the tire under the bed.

I don't trust that thin-metal rear bumper. I installed a front-mount receiver and carry the spare in the front. A few thousand summer miles now and no issue with cooling.

What Bullitt said. Would not trust bumper mount. I also installed a front mount hitch receiver. I like having the tire and wheel weight forward. No problem with cooling so far.

Curious: Where are you guys sourcing your front-mount hitch receivers? This is something I would consider, and it would be nice to have a starting point in my research.

Also, did you install it yourself? I like to turn my own wrenches when I can, but I am unable (in skill or equipment) to do any kind of fabrication or welding.

The front hitch bolts on. I installed it myself. It's easier if you just remove the front bumper. The bumper doesn't weigh much.

AWESOME! Thank you!

That's much less expensive than I thought it would be!

I think just carrying a tire is the way to go, aren't the wheels different front and rear, my luck I would have the wrong one for a flat, let roadside service take care of unmounting and mounting the new tire.

redhawk spare tire

I also have a redhawk 22c with no spare. I have done a lot of looking and found a heavy duty tire mount for rear bumper which I will try.
Found mount from Stromberg Carlson #VFX9330 @231-947-8600.
Found wheel from wheelsandcaps.com #STL01620U20 @866-654-7467

good luck

Front and rear tires & wheels are the same. I don't intend to change out a flat tire, but am equipped and capable in case it becomes necessary.

I would not be comfortable with a roadside tire mounting service.

I know for sure that the mounted tire I carry with me holds air, and it's also balanced.

I also carry a heavy duty bottle jack, blocking, and tools to change the tire if absolutely necessary.
