Don’t hit them during rush hour.

Knoxville is a pain, Atlanta is worse. Most people say just shoot straight through downtown Atlanta. There's a beltway, but it's long and crowded too.

On your way home make sure you stop at the Florida welcome center and get free OJ!

Coming into Cincinnati from KY in the morning is real bad.

Atlanta will always be busy. I've pulled a boat through at rush hour, no fun, but got lucky and got through with no major issues. Not sure I'd want to drive my RV through there. There are also almost always construction issues and will hang you up from time to time. I'd look for a way to avoid as much of the Atlanta metro area as possible. If not, try to come through at off peak hours, best would be very early in the AM, as in prior to 6 AM.

We have had the best luck taking I285W around the city. An app to monitor traffic can be helpful. Atlanta is always "keep your fingers crossed".

When we leave SWFL we don't get to Atlanta the first day. We stay about an hour out and get an early start. ... breakfast in the truck.

Edit (remembered an old story): Friends of ours were driving through Atlanta some years ago and DW said "Jim, that guy just gave you the finger". Jim said "Is that what he was doing? I thought he was welcoming us to the South".

If this is a trip where time is not a issue scope out the areas West and East of the big cities for things you may want to see or do. We always find things or places that look interesting in the general direction we are going when planning a trip and plan our route for that. With that decided we then find campgrounds to park the motorhome. We call it wandering to our destination. Being retired makes that possible.

FWIW, we stay outside of the major cities the night B4 and get up at 3 or 4 am and hit the road.
