I would recommend a drive through the Badlands in South Dakota and while in Cody we really enjoy the Old Trail Town... a bunch of restored old west buildings including the Hole-in-the-Wall saloon where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid hung out. Also, Liver-Eating Jeremia Johnson is buried there (portrayed by Robert Redford in the 1970's movie).

First time in this area. No time limit on travel and just two old retired folks and their dog.
Any suggestions on what not to miss?
We spent a few months in and around the area last summer and still didn't get to see anywhere near all of it!

For us, aside from the biggies (Mt. Rushmore and Glacier), we really enjoyed Custer, SD in general (you have Jewel Cave, Wind Cave and Crazy Horse, as well as Custer SP). Also, the Battle of Little Bighorn near Garryowen MT was spectacular, as was Glacier. We didn't get to do Yellowstone last year, but have it on our todo list in the near future.
