The question of a gun

Surely there are many threads on this forum that discuss going RVing armed but I seem to have a lot of trouble searching on this site. So I'm bringing it up again.

I'm NOT talking about concealed carry. I'm talking about having a hand gun or a small shotgun, a 410 for example handy if the need arises. I know quite a bit about guns, gun handling, likely hood of needing a gun and so on. I've got the map of state regulations and I know local regs differ. I'm not worried about being arrested. I'm not worried but am concerned about safety. We would like to work into dry camping and boondocking, likely out of cell phone range and distant from police protection. I haven't seen any crime statistics in the RV community so it's hard if not impossible to evaluate the risk. So the question is, What do YOU think about keeping a gun in your RV?

We always have one available. it's a simple 38 revolver with no safety and a concealed hammer. It is actually my wife's and she shoots it regularly, which I highly recommend to do just so there are no hiccups when you need to use it. Which is hopefully never.

I have a CCP and avoid any state that does not honor my permit.

As to weapons while traveling, I never leave home without one.

With that said, the first thing to ask your self is how do you secure the weapon when you are not in the vicinity of your coach?

Please, do not ask that question on the forum. Anyone with half a brain is not going to tell you how their weapon is secured in their RV. Thieves also view these forums since they are an open platform.

Here are links to threads within the forum related to the topic. In some cases the thread may be closed because this topic tends to get real political, real fast and is often shutdown by the moderators.

Good luck.

I think you will get your answers here, but I will try to help with the search itself. The search engines on forums are not the best. You can use google to search a specific site, like this demonstration:

I always have at least two with us at all times. I keep a legal length sawed off 20 gauge pump and a pistol. We boondock 95% of the time and it’s good insurance to always have around and at hand. We also travel to different states and the only time I do not have them with us is whenever we go into Canada or Mexico.

Our experiences when boondock camping in the west... Most campers are open carrying. My personal observation of the trip we took a couple of weeks ago, about 70% of the campsites we drove past had at least one of the occupants wearing a clearly visible holstered sidearm.

And when I refer to the west... that really means to us - Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona. NOT California
