They finally recovered our Jayco Granite Ridge!
Hey all! Long story but i'll cut to the chase. A month ago someone stole our RV, a 2006 Granite Ridge 2900 GS from the side of the house. It was recovered 90+ miles north of us abandoned, vandalized but still driveable. Insurance worked with us and we ended up keeping the RV. I bought this RV from my father less than a year ago and has been great.
I am not nearly as savvy or well informed as the rest of you guys here but I thought I should reach out for help. I've always been a lurker and am always in awe of the level of knowledge here. They cut and gutted most of the electrical components (not the generator thankfully) inside the RV. They broke some of the cabinets, stole the sofa, water pump etc... This is a project that I am willing to tackle and will definitely take some time/long hours but will hopefully be worth it when it is said and done.
I am trying to get power back inside the actual cabin of the RV but the wires under the bed+wires that connect to the board (generator switch) are all cut. I need to locate the name of that component+where I can order it from or a picture of what should go there. I will post pictures from my mobile phone of what is missing.
Sorry for the wall of text & thanks for hearing me out!
-Dave

First thing is to contact JAYCO and ask for the wiring schematics. It will show you what wires go where.
https://www.jayco.com/site/contact/service/
What you are asking about is a transfer switch there are several brands, you need a 30 amp switch. You will also probably need a converter charger.

Is there anything I need to look for in particular when purchasing the Automatic Transfer Switch and the converter box. Does it have to be the exact one the comes equipped from the factory?

No. When you buy the new converter/charger spend a few extra dollars and get one with a "smart charger". If they removed the fuse & breaker panel you can get a converter/charger/panel all in one.

Sorry for the damage done to your motorhome. When looking for a converter/charger, consider one that also can charge lithium batteries. That way if you decide to put solar panels and use lithium batteries you are good to go. I had an alarm system put in my Greyhawk. It is suppose to disable the motorhome and make it more difficult to steal. Another good thing o have is a Progressive power management system. Either a plug-in or a hardwired one will help to protect your electrical system (not from theft). Good luck on your project.

Sorry for the damage. Fairly state to get a camper back. I assume the tend to end up as a hunting shack.
Grumpy is right, start with the electrical schematic. From there make a plan, and work through it. Some areas will be challenging, like getting the power around a shower. Did they steal your roof top ac? If not get temporary power to it, so you can at least be comfortable.
The heart of the power system is the the ac/dc/converter box. That is were I would start.
The 120 ac power will be simple, with the minor exception of wiring in the transfer switch.
The dc power, in general is simple. The only challenge really is the sensors and radio. Hopefully they did not cut the ceiling wires for the lights. That could be a pain to rerun.
Good luck take lots of pictures and keep us posted, and ask ques5.

Appreciate the kind words. Certainly will do. Grumpy posted a link to one from Progressive Dynamics that I ordered. Thanks again!

Great advice! I agree, lucky to even have the RV back. No the rooftop A/C is still there thankfully. They did cut the ceiling lights, though there is a wire dangling from each cutout.
Like I mentioned in my earlier post, thanks to Grumpy I purchased a Progressive Dynamics Mighty Mini. So now that the heart of the power system has been purchased, what would be the next order of business? Obviously install the transfer switch+power converter first. But before installing, is there anything else I should do?
For the DC power, what else would I need to purchase?

Won't your insurance cover the repairs?

I opted to keep the RV with less payout vs. giving it to insurance for almost nothing, meaning they won't cover the repairs.

I’m just intrigued by the fact there was a need to steal and salvage parts from an RV. I can think of 100 easier and more lucrative ways to criminally make some money. None of those include stealing a massive box on wheels filled with the cheapest Chinese sourced parts the manufacturer could get that most likely has a resale value of next to nothing.
Am I missing something here or are criminals getting that desperate?!

You and me both. They were stupid enough to leave the generator but decided the microwave was worth it. Amongst other things.

Lol, if your like me you’d have been like “here’s $200, it’s more than whatever your ripping out is worth on the black market” “just don’t mess up my camper and walk away!”
That’s fantasy of course, if it was me and caught them red handed there’s a spot in the backyard for thieves. Good luck with the remodel, crazy times man...

Yup strange indeed. My guess is the bad guy is restoring an RV just like OP's model and it had the goods. I mean, who the heck would steal ceiling lights and leave a roof AC and Gen untouched... hate hearing these stories though, cuz our coaches are our homes (some for weekends, some for always) and the bad guys don't care...

If your budget allows you might want to check out lithium batteries. Pricey, in addition to which they require a special battery charger. In your case you already have to buy a charger. Might it be one for lithium batteries, which have great advantages.....long life (for those who plan to keep the RV for many years, Light weight, rapid charge, ability to take safely a deeper discharge (double what you are used to) & etc. Just a thought. Good Luck.

Since you already need to replace the charger/converter anyway, definitely go for one that can handle lithium batteries. The advantages to those batteries are incredible. Many of the rest of us would have to rip out the charger/converter we have to use them, making them a more expensive proposition to convert to.

Sorry that your motorhome was stolen and vandalized. I'm finishing a travel trailer garage so I can store my 19RD in a locked building. More importantly, I can protect it from ultraviolet light and hail. Good luck fixing it yourself. This Forum has many knowledgeable people who are even more helpful. Maybe your budget will have room for a rear vision camera.
