To Winterize or Not to Winterize? That is the Question

With the temperatures your talking about and wanting to go camping. I would blow out the lines, and call it good. However, realize water will settle in the low points, and there are lots of them. I would buy 2-3 gallons of RV antifreeze and put in the garage. This way if you do expect a real cold snap you can winterize properly quickly.

We camp all the time in 20 degree temps with no issue. Usually at home until we put the HTT away, all I do is blow out the lines if we think we're going to get a cold snap.


If you keep the TT at home, open the cabinet doors that have water pipes behind them, and turn on the furnace or an electric heater for those few incidences that it might be cold enough to cause an issue.

+1 on the electric heater. Late in the season, after our last trip but before I winterize, I keep an eye on the weather forecast. If they say it's going to be below freezing, I open the cabinets that have plumbing in them and turn on an electric heater. It's enough to keep everything from freezing.
