Toad Set Up

Picking up Greyhawk 31DS next Wed. I have a blue ox set up on my toad, just wondering if anyone else is towing with a 2016 31DS. I would like to know how many inch drop are you using on the receiver. They told me the center of the receiver on RV is about 21" and my blu ox is level at 15". Wondering if I should go with a 6" drop or go with a 4" to allow for some lowering of the RV when loaded. If anyone is towing a toad I would appreciate any info you have!

Hi Tom. I have the blue ox setup to tow my 2013 Wrangler with my 2015 31DS. The center of my receiver is 19" from the ground. I am using the blue ox alpha tow bar with no additonal drop required. It fits right into the factory receiver and the Jeep is level. I don't know what vehicle you are towing, so I can only comment on what I have.

Most BLUE OX tow bars allow for a 3" deviation up or down. I would buy a drop that keeps the tow bar level unloaded.

Just be aware with a 6" drop you are much more likely to drag the rear on uneven drives and approaches. I just added a roller to my Seneca's drop adapter to "ease" the transition when it occurs.

I just finished welding a hitch roller onto my drop after I ruined a second safety cable. The cable ended up the lowest thing and got caught when I scraped coming in a driveway. Going to try to route them over the drop and let the roller do its thing. But like you I need a drop to keep the towbar angle within specs.

Coming into some steep drives at an angle can help when it is practical.
