Smile towed vehicles

Hello, We have a 2017 Jayco Grehawk 29V. We plan to tow a 2019 Ford Taurus behind it. It weighs 3800 lbs. Do you think it will tow safely when we take a trip out west or even through Pennsylvania or other states with big hills.

Appreciate your advice and it would be interesting to know what vehicle you tow.

Thanks. Joe and Alice Marocco, 2017 Greyhawk 29V

I'm in PA and have a 2016 Greyhawk 29MV and pull a Jeep Wrangler.

Your Taurus should be fine, if properly equipped.

The owners manual should tell you the towing procedure.

Agree with Ron.

The weight shouldn't be much of an issue. You'll know it's there, but the Greyhawk will pull it all day long.

I would triple check the owner's manual to see what's required to make the Taurus flat-towable. If you end up with a dolly, that introduces a lot of other issues (not the least of which is where will you store the dolly when not in use). Lots of folks dolly-tow, but it's not for me...

I also tow a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (JLU). Weight is plenty within spec, and like I said, Greyhawk will tow it all day long. Getting into Neutral for towing is a little "tricky" IMO, but once you get the procedure down, it's not that big a deal. Also, the JL series Wranglers (2018 & up) are a totally different beast than their predecessors. People who "hate the ride" of a Wrangler should really check out the new ones. Mine rides ALMOST as nice as the Grand Cherokee it replaced.

Are you putting the Taurus on a trailer? Or will you want to tow it flat (four wheels on the ground)?
Either way as the others have said, your coach will pull the weight fine. Stopping the weight smoothly and safely is most important. Be certain that what every you have behind you has a functioning brake system.
Be Safe!

Thanks for the info. We installed a Blue Ox base plate on our Taurus and will flat tow it. We also bought the Patriot 3 brake system so I think we will be ok. Appreciate your quick response.

thanks for your reply. We will flat tow and have the Blue Ox base plate. Also have the Patriot 3 brake system. We have had larger RVs in the past when we towed our 3 different Taurus's and had no problem but because this is a smaller RV, we were concerned. The Taurus is a great vehicle to tow and we are sad they are not making them any more. We had a 2008, a 2014 and now the 2019.

Feel much better about that trip out west now!

Hello all, I want to tow my 2012 Honda Accord on a short trip on a dolly, my question is what tire pressure should be in the dolly tires and do I have to tow in tow mode on the flat parts of the interstate highways?

Dolly should have tire info..or go by tires on it

Tow mod is ok, it can shift a LOT though. I stopped using it except on Sony 6-8% downgrades for braking assist

I also tow with my e450 redhawk j22. We flat tow a 2 dr jeep wranler. The 450 is so over kill that I don't really notice the pulling weight. I don't ever use towing mode. What surprised me was the engine braking that happens when you pump the brakes going down hill. The more you pump the higher the gear. I don't like it as I don't feel the need for it

If you use tow/haul and set the cruise you don't have to pump the brakes. The transmission will do the shift, at the proper times to slow you down and maintain the speed you set. I do find that it will creep up about 5 mph going down hill so set 50 if you want to stay at 55.
