towing car and bike?

We just bought a small (320 pound) Honda bike we want to carry between our 2018 Seneca and our TOAD. Found an 18 inch hitch extension that says it reduces the capacity of the 2 inch receiver on the Seneca by 30%. Thought about welding or bolting a one rail bike carrier onto the extension. We'd have enough space to tie the bike down and still be able to flat tow the CRV. Thoughts please...

500# tongue weight max on the RV, unless the Seneca has a class IV hitch. Minus 30% = 350#. If the bike weighs 320# that's awfully close and does NOT include the weight of the hitch carrier or trailer tongue.

Seneca has class IV hitch, so 1K tongue weight, 10K total towing weight. Minus 30% gives 700# tongue weight and 7000# tow, right?

Mr. Bill, your math is right. I always get nervous about some of those hitch extensions. If it was me, I would stop into a welding shop with a few images of the Seneca with your toad, a picture of the Bike, current hitch assembly info. I would inquire with them about fabricating a hitch extension, to mount the bike. They will probably design and fabricate something that you can feel 100% confident in. Usually when I have a welding shop install a hitch on a TT, it is a lot better quality, along with cheaper than having the dealer do it.

Great idea! I was thinking about it, and maybe welding a small receiver hitch to each of the Seneca's frame rails, installing a small extension that would stabilize and strengthen the rail for the bike. Thanks!!

Since you don’t mention what year your CRV is, why not put a hitch on it and tow the bike off the CRV? If you’re willing to go to a shop they could easily fabricate a higher TW hitch for the CRV. Just a thought...
